Cycling became a challenge when numbness in her hand and fingers kept Kathy from even pushing the buttons on her e-bike. A quick fix at TCO got her back in gear.
“I’d been dealing with carpal tunnel symptoms for over a decade. I had my right wrist repaired at TCO years ago, but with six kids to raise, I never made time to fix the other one.
Once my kids were grown, the numbness got worse, especially when I was biking, driving, or holding my phone. We were new to Lake Elmo, so I posted in a couple of Facebook groups in my city and neighborhood to get recommendations for a good hand surgeon. Dr. Nicholas Meyer’s name kept coming up. I made an appointment, got in quickly, and he diagnosed it right away.
I’ve never been excited for surgery, but this time I was. It was quick and easy. Local anesthesia, maybe ten minutes total. His Physician Assistant, Jenny Ellis, did an amazing job walking me through everything. I’ve had a total knee replacement, so this felt like nothing in comparison.
I went for a 20-mile bike ride this spring, and my hand didn’t go numb once. I can drive, text, and hold my handlebars without any issues. I was so thrilled with my results that I sent Dr. Meyer a thank-you note with a photo of me biking. He called me personally after he got it, which really meant a lot.
I didn’t realize how much feeling I had lost in my hand/fingers until I got it back. I’m just so thankful for the care I received. With six kids and seven grandkids, I’ve got a lot to keep up with. Now, I can.”
