This February, let’s encourage women to prioritize their hearts, learn their numbers, and build habits that last a lifetime. February is American Heart Month, but heart health matters every day of the year. The American Heart Association's 2026 Heart Disease and Stroke Statistics Update shows that deaths from heart disease and stroke are declining. While this is encouraging, heart disease remains the leading cause of death in the United States. In women, cardiovascular disease claims more lives each year than all cancers combined.
To support overall heart health, the American Heart Association developed Life’s Essential 8, a guide for improving cardiovascular wellness:
1. Eat better
2. Be more active
3. Quit to***co
4. Get healthy sleep
5. Manage weight
6. Control cholesterol
7. Manage blood sugar
8. Manage blood pressure
