Daily Meditation | Proverbs 26
Proverbs 26 reminds us that ignoring truth keeps us stuck in the same destructive cycles.
“As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly.”
Proverbs 26:11
Addiction is often marked by repetition — going back to what we know hurts us. Even after consequences, even after promises, even after regret… the pull to return can feel strong. God’s Word shows us how dangerous it is to keep going back to what He has already delivered us from.
This chapter also warns us about pride in our own thinking:
“Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? There is more hope of a fool than of him.”
Proverbs 26:12
Recovery begins when we stop trusting our own judgment and start submitting to God’s wisdom. Pride keeps us trapped, but humility opens the door to change.
And a reminder about our responsibility in conflict:
“Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out…”
Proverbs 26:2
Sometimes growth means refusing to feed old arguments, temptations, or unhealthy relationships. When we stop adding fuel, God allows the fire to die out.
Recovery is choosing:
Not to return
Not to rely on our own understanding
Not to fuel what God is giving strength to extinguish
Prayer:
Lord, give us strength not to return to the things that once enslaved us. Help us lay down pride and trust in Your wisdom. Teach us to stop feeding the fires You are giving strength to put out. Amen.
