Final visit with Bloom’s final west michigan family.
So thankful for the hundreds of babies and hours and miles the last several years.
We will have a party soon to celebrate all of the families we’ve cared for in west michigan.
So much joy and so much power and love witnessed.
Thank you to all the families for inviting us into your holy birthing space and thank you to my students who I’ve had the honor of watching grow into themselves.
Birth connects us all in ways that can’t be described and i love you all as if you were my family and your babies as if they were my own nieces and nephews (and some of them indeed are).
Please never stop sending me updates, they bring me more joy than you could imagine.

We didn’t get a group shot today, but I am so thankful that I have so many midwives who are always up for an adventure.
Special thanks to Jenn Seif (and Samantha) @ Oak Tree Birth Services for driving up whenever I need a second set of eyes.
And doula Mandi @ Great Lakes Doulas for loving and encouraging and analyzing and jiggling people nonstop.
And my very favorite Sr Student Ashley at Ashley Jungjohan Doula who is always an enthusiastic yes to any adventure and always greets me with the warmest “good morning” when woken in the middle of a REM cycle.

And to the families we serve. The fact that you trust us on one of the most important days of your entire life is not lost on us.
We recognize that the space we are invited into is a holy space and it will follow your family every single day for the rest of your life.
We promise to continue to honor your birth as the most important thing in the world, even as the rest of the world goes on: sitting in traffic, grabbing dinner, sleeping and working and playing as if a miracle hasn’t just happened.
It is because of our desire to serve and our passion for your right to autonomy that keeps us going.

We are doing our best to rebuild but funding is a significant issue and we need some more clients to sign onto care if we are going to succeed.

Happy Thursday.
Nobody likes asking for help.
Especially Midwives, we are fiercely independent.
We like to do it all.

We can’t actually do it all.

The Birth Center has spent quite some time in decline and the new owner has been left with a significant amount of overhead but no clients to care for.
She has invested her time and energy and resources, but has accepted that she can’t do it alone.
In addition to the associated monthly business overhead, her first priority was to replace all the expired meds and pay for all the expenses that keep the daily operations open.

Now that the urgent needs have been met, we are moving on to updates.
And we need our village.
We need our community.
The Families, the birth workers, the sister midwives, the other alternative professionals.
We need your help.

If Nine Short Months has a place in your heart and you are in a position to donate we graciously welcome donations.

-Financial donations are incredibly appreciated and the most needed request as we rebuild.
-Natural birth related Books for a lending library, used or new.
-New or gently used Muslin Blankets.
-Talents: painting, organizing, building bookshelves. Putting furniture together. We will organize a specific day for this.

I didn’t chase the moon to a birth tonight.
This time, I drove alongside the Venus Jupiter Conjunction. A representation of healing and harmony.
We honored a birth story that didn’t go as planned. We set up the pool, we got the classic baby weighing pictures and did footprints and ate cake while we oohed and aahed over the most perfectly wise 3 week old baby and his incredible mom.
I’m so thankful for doulas and how well they love. I’m so thankful for clients who invite me into their holy space, who become an extension of my own family.

Newborn exams side by side for these sweet blizzard babies.
I love that got a pic of us checking each other’s scales before announcing the weights of these babies who came well past their due date. They are absolutely perfect and keep growing into their cheeks and their parents are simply amazing.
