Flu activity across Maryland is currently rated “high” by health officials, with emergency rooms seeing a growing number of cases and hospital crowding reported. Local doctors are warning that this season started earlier and stronger than usual.

Here’s what you should know:

Flu spreads rapidly through the winter months, with January historically a peak time for infections.

Adults 65+ are more likely to experience serious complications, hospital stays, and even death from the flu, compared with younger adults. Between about 71–85% of flu-related deaths and 54–70% of flu hospitalizations occur in older adults.

✔️ Get a flu shot now — it’s still effective and recommended any time flu is circulating.
