Did you know that about 1.1 million people in the United States are living with Parkinson's disease (PD)? 🌷

🧠 This progressive brain disorder is perhaps most well known for causing tremors, but other symptoms include loss of vocal volume, sleep disruptions, stiffness, and balance issues, among others.

Thankfully, there are ways to improve Parkinson's symptoms! 😀 Our therapy team offers rehabilitation services to help improve mobility, range of motion, function, and speech for those living with PD. Call us to see how we can support you or your loved one.

What does Occupational Therapy look like❓

It looks like someone practicing how to button a shirt again. 👔 Rebuilding the strength and dexterity to hold a coffee cup. ☕ Rehearsing the motions to prepare a simple meal and learning to use a reacher to safely pick things up without bending 🫳.

During Occupational Therapy Month, we’re celebrating the amazing therapists who help our rehab patients rebuild confidence, independence, and the skills that make daily life meaningful. 🫶

💗 "Therapy here at Northwood Hills has changed my life and given me back my hope of having a good life." ~ Pamala

Pamala came to us for rehabilitation after a stroke. She was a highly successful businesswoman — independent, driven, and accustomed to managing life with confidence. Through physical and occupational therapies, she made steady progress. She went from unable to walk to walking more than 50 feet at a time, as well as improving her functional independence. 💪

Pamala demonstrated exceptional motivation and resilience throughout her rehabilitation journey. She remained engaged in therapy, consistently pushed herself during sessions, and actively participated in discharge planning. Today, Pamala is preparing to return home, a milestone we celebrate with her! 🎉

🩷 We love to serve our residents and their families, and every so often, we are touched by a letter from a family member. Recently, one of our resident's wives wrote to us and shared this message about her experience with Northwood Hills:

📝 "At first, I was horrified at the thought of having to drive 66 miles one way to a nursing home to see my husband, but it was the only one that had an opening for him. You hear so many horror stories, and a hundred 'what-if's ran through my mind.

After meeting with the heads of each department, all those what-ifs went away. The facility is spotless, and the food is just like home-cooked. Yes, I tasted it - LOL! 😂

The staff is amazing. Every resident is treated like family. They are professional and take care of their patients physically, mentally, and emotionally. If you look closely, you will see those angels' wings they carry on their backs.

I cannot recommend this place highly enough. I don't have to worry, and neither will you. ☺️
