When someone you care about speaks, gift them your full, undivided attention. Turn off distractions like your phone, make eye contact, and focus solely on them. Notice their body language—the way they move, the expressions that cross their face. These silent cues often speak volumes about how they’re feeling, even if they don’t say it outright. Being present in this way sends a powerful message: “You matter to me.”

Showing Genuine Interest
Sometimes, just small gestures can make a world of difference. A warm, reassuring nod, leaning in slightly as they talk, or saying things like “I see” or “Go on” lets the other person know you’re with them in every word. These simple acts show that you’re not only listening but that you value what they have to say.

Understanding What’s Beneath the Words
It’s easy to hear someone’s words, but understanding their heart takes effort. Reflecting back on what they’ve shared, paraphrasing their thoughts in your own words, or asking gentle questions to clarify can help ensure you truly grasp their feelings and intentions. And remember—it’s not our place to judge. Sometimes, we just need to hold space for the people we care about, letting them express themselves without fear of criticism.
