Funeral services for Mr. John Wesley Highfill, age 81, will be held at 2 PM on Monday, January 13, 2025 in the Shelton-Hunt Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Highfill, a retired operations manager for Pacific Gas Transmission, passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2025 in the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.

Mr. Highfill was an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer for many decades teaching his children and step children how to hunt and fish throughout their upbringing. He also had a great love of the Eagles and knew each of their albums front to back. He enjoyed his many years of retirement with his wife Julie. He was an extremely happy grandfather and took great pride in each and every one of his beloved grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by siblings, Betty Highfill, Wynona Granados, Dale Highfill, Elaine Ramos, Billy Highfill and Leroy Highfill.

Mr. Highfill is survived by his wife, Julie Highfill; a daughter, Kimberly Suzanne Lillard (Dennis) of Lincoln, CA; a son, David Noel Highfill (Ellain) of Pasadena, CA (Kimberly and David's mother is John's first wife, Dorothy Sanchez) ; two step-sons, Jesse Schrecengost (Emily) of Missoula, MT and Kelly Peterman (Brooke) of Kalispell, MT; three sisters, Jayne Valdez, Violet Ferguson and Claudette Romo all of CA; and five grandchildren, Erika Suzanne Lillard Luna, Noel Wesley Highfill, Julian Henry Highfill, Dean Otto Peterman and Matilda June Pray.

Jon Richard Killebrew passed away December 26, 2024, at the age of 88. Born May 4, 1936 in Springville, TN to Charles Henderson Killebrew and Mildred Elizabeth Killebrew Evans, Jon was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather known for his witty humor, kindness, and generosity. He spent his childhood in Chicago and Springville. He graduated from Springville High School and Bethel College (Bethel University) and served in the U.S. Army. He moved to Humboldt, TN in 1966, where he lived for 58 years.

After college and his service in the Army, Jon married Ann Cox Killebrew and began his career at Rock Island Railroad in Chicago. They later moved to Highland, Illinois, where he worked for Alton Box Board Company (later named Jefferson Smurfit Corporation). After relocating to Humboldt, he continued working for them as the plant controller for 38 years, before retiring in 2000. After retirement, Jon and Ann, spent their time traveling and enjoying grandchildren and friends. They took 21 cruises all over the world and made numerous trips around the U.S. Many summer vacations and Thanksgivings were spent at his favorite place, Gatlinburg and the Great Smoky Mountains. For many years, he made annual trips to Rosemary Beach with his family, who will have cherished memories of these times spent searching for crabs and shells with grandchildren, and eating donuts, ice cream, and seafood.

Jon loved his family dearly. He was a loyal and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He actively supported his children at sporting events, piano recitals, and band competitions, and later his grandchildren’s activities. He coached his children’s baseball and softball teams and was a member of the school board for the Humboldt school system.

Jon loved sports, especially the Chicago White Sox and Tennessee Volunteers. He played baseball and basketball during high school and was the pitcher for the Bethel College baseball team. In later years, he played in various Fantasy Football Leagues and enjoyed playing dominos with his close friends. He loved gospel and country music, and watching westerns, James Bond movies, and old comedies. He was a member of the Al Chymia Shriners and was a Mason for 66 years. Jon was a faithful Christian and long-time member of Grace United Methodist Church, where he served as Sunday School Superintendent and Treasurer for many years.

Jon leaves his beloved wife of 63 years, Ann, his daughter Beth (Jeff) Killebrew Autry, sons Andy (Donna) Killebrew and Kevin (Amanda) Killebrew, six grandchildren, Olivia & Suzanna Autry, Aaron and Anna Kathryn Killebrew, Maggie Mayer and Caroline Killebrew, and two step-granddaughters, Alivia and Stephanie Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-parents Fred Evans and Margaret Killebrew, his sister and brother-in-law, Billie Jean Killebrew Evans and Paul Evans, and his infant son Scott Killebrew.

Jon resided at The Arbors Dogwood Pointe Assisted Living and Memory Care for the final year of his life, where he passed away after a valiant battle with Alzheimer’s. His family would like to thank the incredible staff of Dogwood, along with AseraCare Hospice, for the love and care they provided him.

The visitation has been canceled. Jon will be cremated and there will be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humboldt Historical Museum or Humboldt Public Library.

Mrs. Brown, a homemaker and preacher’s wife, passed away at home on Tuesday, December 24, 2024.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Abner and Luna Sanders; and a sister, Annie Earlene Taylor.

Mrs. Brown is survived by her husband, James Brown; three sons, John Brown and Stephen Brown both of the Philippines and James Brown of Milan; seven grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Mr. Brown, the manager of Loss Control for Reed Trucking and member of Englewood Baptist Church, passed away Sunday, December 22, 2024, at Bells Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his parents, Albert George and Ruth Ben (Campbell) Brown; two brothers, Bobby Joe Brown and Benny Dean Brown; and one sister, Elizabeth Ann Elston.

Mr. Brown is survived by his wife, Frances Brown of Jackson, TN; one daughter, Teresa Stokes and husband Kelvin of Birmingham, AL; one son, David Brown and wife Janet of Jackson, TN; five grandchildren, Andrew Stokes, Baxley Stokes, Amy Kathryn Stokes, Caitlyn Schluter, and Abby Brown; as well as four great grandchildren.

Pallbearers to serve are Andrew Stokes, Baxley Stokes, Brodey Schluter, Jerry Elston, Tommy Shaffer, and Bill Van den Bosch.

Mrs. Eaton passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2024 at her home in Savannah surrounded by family. She enjoyed river life, particularly boating and loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was employed as a nurse case manager for the Tennessee Army National Guard for over ten years.

Mr. George Richard Morin, Sr., loving brother, father, and grandfather, passed away on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 in the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. He was affectionately called “Chickenhawk” by his coworkers, friends, and family. He was a professional driver and dedicated employee for the Dement Family and their businesses.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eustorjio and Ninfa Morin; and two brothers, Robert Morin and Gary Morin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Mozelle Humphreys.

Memorial services for Mr. Albert Morgan Briggs, age 85, will be held at 10 AM on Friday, November 29, 2024 in the Shelton-Hunt Funeral Home Chapel.

Albert Morgan Briggs was born in Friendship, TN to James E. Briggs Sr. and Mary Oma Espey Briggs and passed away on Saturday, October 26, 2024. Albert graduated from Tech High School Memphis, TN in 1957. After high school Albert enlisted with the United States Marine Corp 3rd Marine Battalion as a master sniper and gunner from 1958-1964 serving during the Vietnam War.

Upon his return from war, Albert maintained a career in retail sales working his way to District Manager before his retirement from Old Time Pottery in 2007. Throughout his life Albert has been an avid outdoorsman spending his free time as a volunteer Ridge Runner for the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary Briggs.

Albert is survived by his children, Matthew M. Briggs, Brian S. Briggs, Clayton L. Briggs and Amy Gitter; a sister, Joyce B. Foster; a brother, James E. Briggs Jr.; eleven grandchildren and thirty one great grandchildren.

Mr. Robert Edward Smith received his final salute on October 8, 2024, at the Tennessee State Veterans Home in Humboldt, TN, at the age of 81. Born on October 24, 1942, in Jackson, TN, he was the son of Paul E. and Violet H. Smith. He was an active member of his church, Sitka Church of Christ and his community. At the young age of 18, he joined the Tennessee Army National Guard. He retired in October of 2002 in the rank of Master Sergeant (MSG) after serving honorably for 42 years.

Throughout his Army career, MSG Smith performed many roles, but his primary specialty was M1 Armor Crewman. He later became a master instructor for the TN Army National Guard, where he expertly trained and prepared over 1,000 soldiers on M1 Tank operations. In his final duty, he was assigned to the Regional Training Institute in Smyrna, TN where he was the subject matter expert on armored Tactics, Techniques and Procedures. MSG Smith was a decorated patriotic Guardsman who embodied the Guard’s core values.

Robert was an avid athlete; he finished more than 25 marathons and was known as an elite runner. He shared this enjoyment with the love of his life Mrs. Reba Smith, who he married in 1994. They would continue their enjoyment of outdoor activities by volunteering in many noble causes that included mission work in New Mexico.

Robert was proceeded in death by his parents, Paul Edward and Violet Cordelia (Hopper) Smith , a stepson Howard Dunn Jrand a grandson Cody Ray Dunn.

Robert is survived by his wife Reba Smith, of Milan, TN; his daughters Suzanne Bobo of Lancaster, NY and Dina (Tony) Tomczak of Powder Springs, GA; son, Robert (Robby) E. Smith Jr. of Clearwater, FL; grandsons Christopher Bobo and Lewis A. Phillips; great-grandchildren, Eli Bobo of Holiday, FL, Phoenix Phillips and Zoe Phillips ; sister, Paula (Jerry) Latham of Beech Bluff, TN; brothers, Larry and Henry Smith of Jackson, TN; nephew, Timothy Latham of Lexington, KY and stepdaughter, Leigh Ann (Stephen) Stringfellow of Milan, TN.

Funeral services for Mr. W.L. Hundley, age 93, will be held at 1 PM on Saturday October 12, 2024, at The Church at Sugar Creek with Dr. Greg McFadden officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Humboldt, TN. Visitation will be Friday October 11, 2024, from 4 PM until 8 PM at Shelton-Hunt Funeral Home Chapel and Saturday October 12, 2024, from 12 PM until service time at The Church at Sugar Creek.

Mr. Hundley passed away at West TN Rehabilitation Hospital in Jackson, TN on Tuesday October 8, 2024.

W.L. Hundley served as Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and RA Director at Emanuel Baptist Church. Now serving as teacher of the Hundley-Gray Sunday School class at the Church at Sugar Creek. He left this earth to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 8, 2024. He dearly enjoyed fishing, traveling, bowling, and spending time with his family. W.L. has many friends in the West Tennessee area by way of his career in sales with Bowman Barnes Distribution and Physicians Mutual Insurance.

Mr. Hundley is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Mary Lee (Harrison) Hundley, and one son, Raymond Hundley of Jackson, TN.

Mr. Hundley is survived by; his wife, of 75 years, Wilma Lee (Hicks) Hundley of Humboldt, TN; one daughter, Brenda (Wayne) Salley of Yuma, TN; and five grandsons; Shayne Gibson, Chris Hundley, Andrew Hundley, Daniel Salley and David Salley.
