Hospice & Palliative Care Network of Maryland

Hospice & Palliative Care Network of Maryland We are a membership association for hospice and palliative care programs, services, and facilities in the state of Maryland.

We represent and support the varied organizations that align with our mission. HPCNM does not endorse a particular facility or service over another. Instead, we offer support, resources, training, education and a legislative “voice” to our member organizations. Finally, we serve as a connection point to those in search of their services. In that spirit, we engage in the following:

Promote efforts to create awareness regarding palliative and hospice care, and increase access to underserved communities

Deliver continued professional education to those vested in hospice care, including health care professionals, and community volunteers across private sector, faith based and civic organizations

Encourage dialogue in end-of-life care issues

Represent the voice of the hospice and palliative care community in federal and state agencies

Serve as a liaison between national, state and local hospice and palliative care organizations

As a private, non-profit, 501 ©(3) corporation, each day we work on behalf of our member organizations. We promote awareness, create dialogue, connect resources, provide continued professional training, and lend a collective voice to the legislative process. The Hospice & Palliative Network of Maryland is not affiliated with, or endorsed by any state or federal bureau. HPCNM works on behalf of the collection of agencies, programs and organizations that meet medical, social and emotional needs at the end-of- life.

Thank you to all who turned out to testify on this bill!

On Tuesday, Coastal Hospice President & CEO Ann Lovely joined Maryland hospice leaders to testify before the Senate Finance Committee and House Health Committee in support of SB 611 and HB 1151.

The bills would require the Maryland Department of Health to study Medicaid reimbursement for hospice room and board, addressing gaps that impact patient choice and equitable access to care.

As artificial intelligence (AI) becomes more common in hospice operations, providers face both new opportunities and emerging legal risks. From documentation and analytics to communication and marketing, AI tools can enhance efficiency—but also raise important compliance, privacy, and ethical concerns.

Black History Month invites us to reflect, learn, and act. In hospice and palliative care, equity and dignity are not optional—they are essential. We honor the legacy of Black changemakers and caregivers whose voices and advocacy continue to guide us toward more just, compassionate care for patients and families today and for generations to come.
