Back pain flare-up? Don’t assume stretching forward is the answer.

If it’s a disc issue, many people do better in extension-based positions:
➡️ standing
➡️ walking
➡️ lying flat (on your stomach or back)

These can help reduce pressure on the disc and settle symptoms.

But this isn’t one-size-fits-all—your plan should be specific to you.

A big part of PT should be knowing:
✔️ what to do during a flare
✔️ how to manage symptoms early
✔️ how to prevent it from happening again

If you’ve never been given a clear plan for flare-ups, that’s a gap worth fixing.

5 weeks post-op and finally starting to layer in strength again 💪

This week I began training with the Neubie, which has been a game changer—letting me really work the quad and glutes without breaking any weight-bearing or range of motion precautions.

We’re starting from a 2.5 cm deficit on the left, so there’s work to do—but I can already feel improved stability in my knee when walking. I’m mostly without crutches now, only using them for longer distances when fatigue sets in and I start to compensate.

I’m crutch-free in the clinic and back to treating the majority of my patients 🙌

MS Fit will be back starting May 12—giving me a little more time to build strength and stability so I can show up fully and safely for everyone.

And tomorrow… the MS Walk. Planning to take on the 1-mile loop (with my crutch nearby just in case).

Progress isn’t linear, but it is happening. 💪

Most people think PT for MS is just about “getting stronger.”
It’s not that simple.

MS affects how your brain and body communicate 🧠—so treatment has to go deeper than basic exercise.

Neurologic PT focuses on:
✔️ improving balance and reducing fall risk
✔️ making walking more efficient (not just possible)
✔️ managing fatigue so you can do more without crashing
✔️ building real, functional strength
✔️ retraining your nervous system through neuroplasticity

This is the difference between just moving… and moving with purpose.

At Movement Matters, every plan is individualized and designed around how you move, function, and live your life.

If you’re ready to feel more confident in your body again,

Every day in the clinic I see how hard my clients with MS work just to do things many take for granted.

Walking.
Balancing.
Managing fatigue.

That’s why we’re walking.

On April 25, our Movement Matters community will be participating in Walk MS Charlotte to support research, resources, and the incredible people living with MS.

4 weeks post-op 💛

This was a really good week.

Had my follow-up with my surgeon and he was really happy with my progress—range of motion is looking great, and I got the green light to be done with the CPM and brace 🙌🏼 and start weaning off crutches.

Also… the BEST two nights of sleep without that CPM 😅

Even better—reducing the weight through the crutches and getting rid of the brace has made a huge difference in the other pain I was having on my right side and in my shoulders.

Right now I’m focused on improving my gait with one crutch, and once I can walk without a limp, I’m officially off.

Setting a goal to be walking crutch-free for the MS Walk on 4/25 👟💛

Slowly getting there.

Balance isn’t just about strength — it’s about how your brain processes movement.

When you challenge your balance in the right ways, you’re actually training your nervous system to adapt.

That’s neuroplasticity.

And it’s one of the most important pieces of improving:
• dizziness
• instability
• confidence with walking

Small, consistent challenges lead to real change over time.

Save this and try one of these this week. 💛

One of the things I’m working on while I’m out of the clinic 👇

Learning how to better train the nervous system—not just the muscles.

The Neubie uses direct current stimulation to help the brain and body reconnect more efficiently.

That means:
✔️ better movement patterns
✔️ improved muscle activation
✔️ more opportunities for neuroplastic change

I’m really excited to start integrating this into sessions when I’m back.

More to come on this. 💛

Week 3 post-op… keeping it real

This week had some highs and some very humbling moments.

🐒 Took my kids to the zoo (yes… in a scooter 😅)
💪 Feeling really good about my hip ROM + pain levels

…but also

📉 Noticed pretty significant atrophy in my left leg/quad, which was tough to see

And the reality of crutches is starting to catch up with me:
➡️ Right knee pain with stairs (hello patellofemoral pain)
➡️ Sciatic pain down my right leg when sitting
➡️ Shoulder + thumb pain and subluxations (crutches are no joke)
➡️ Sleep has been… not great in the CPM

It’s a weird place to be—my hip actually feels pretty good, but everything else is working overtime right now.

Definitely feeling a little more frustrated this week, but still hopeful 🙏

Hoping at my post-op appointment next week my surgeon sees the progress and considers giving me the green light to start weaning off crutches (was supposed to start this week, but as of now it’s not until the end of the month🤞)

Recovery isn’t linear… even when you know that, it still hits different when you’re in it

If you’re hypermobile, you’ve probably heard at least one of these… if not all of them 👀

The problem? These statements miss what’s actually going on.

Hypermobility is about how your joints, muscles, and nervous system work together to create stability—not just how far you can move.

That’s why the focus should be on:
✔️ Strength
✔️ Control
✔️ Proprioception (body awareness)
✔️ Nervous system regulation

Not just stretching more.

When you train stability the right way, your body starts to feel more supported—and symptoms often improve.

I get it—when you’re dizzy, you just want it gone ASAP.

But not all vertigo is the same… and doing the wrong maneuver can actually make things worse (or just not work at all).

BPPV has different types + different canals = different treatments.

👉 The right treatment matters
👉 The right side matters
👉 The right diagnosis matters

So before you go down the Google or YouTube rabbit hole…
