Front knee pain is very common in the active population!

And often it is labeled as tendonitis…

Most of the time it is tendinopathy and NOT tendinitis 🧐

Here are the differences:

- Tendonitis is more acute in presentation and results in more constant discomfort

- Tendinopathy is more chronic, intermittent, and load dependent.

Do you get these questions all the time from your ACL patients? Not sure when to say yes? Do you just defer to the surgeon or their protocol?

Forget the 9-month guesswork you learned in a textbook. We don’t jog ā€˜til the data says so.

Comment ā€œprotocolsā€ for the full breakdown of how I get my ACL patients back to running šŸ“‹

After ACL reconstruction and meniscal repair, I see patients struggle to get their last degrees of flexion ROM.

If heels slides are not working…

If squats are not helping…

If FORCING it isn’t working…

Try tibial mobilizations!!

Here are a few examples of tibial mobilizations that I like to use šŸ‘ŒšŸ½

šŸ”‘For all the exercises listed patients need to be able to perform in their FULL ROM showing adequate neuromuscular control before progressingā€¼ļø

1ļøāƒ£SLR
2ļøāƒ£SAQ
3ļøāƒ£LAQ
4ļøāƒ£Isometrics - beginning at 90 degrees progressing to 60 degrees
5ļøāƒ£Loaded partial range leg extension isotonics 90 to 60 degrees
6ļøāƒ£Loaded full range double leg extension isotonics
7ļøāƒ£Loaded full range single leg extension isotonics

This progression ensures the adequate quad strength to decrease the strain on the graft and the occurrence of front knee pain.

What do you think? šŸ¤”
