“May your troubles be less and your blessings be more and nothing but happiness come through your door 🍀 I’ve always known the farm to be a special place but the kids proved just how lucky it truly is by finding 5 four leaf clovers just this week! Holiday themed grounding activities can be a great strategy to keep in your back pocket to help kids learn mindfulness as they go throughout their day. This week we incorporated searching for four leaf clovers and trying to find as many green things in the barn as we could find. Happy St Patrick’s Day 💚🎩🍀💫

When you are passive and can't walk, a horse helps you run.
When you are afraid, a horse teaches you to trust.
When you are weak, a horse helps you build strength.
When you can't find your voice, a horse helps you speak without words.
When you want to give up, a horse shows you how far you can go.

This class clown could not be more ready for his kiddos to be on summer break so they can come see him more ☀️😎 Swipe left to see what he thinks of my therapeutic activities lately (*hint* the horse ate my homework 🙄) If you are seeing some regression in your child’s behaviors around the end of their school year remember that this is common and likely developmentally appropriate. Kids find safety in routines and familiarity and while the transition to summer break sounds like a positive change it’s still an unknown that could be causing some adjustment related stress. Be sure to keep your child updated on any unique activities or testing schedules to prepare them for what to expect each day. Make connections with the caregivers of their friends in effort to allow them to maintain these friendships over the summer months. Continue to acknowledge the growth that you’ve observed in them over the past year. Give grace (to yourself and your kids) and allow some time for adjustment to the summer routine. If you are still noticing regressive behavior or you would like your child to participate in a social skills group to make some progress over the summer the Summer session of our 8 week social skills groups will be from 6/15-8/10. Email [email protected] for more details.

Happy Valentine’s Day to all our VFT families ❤️ This Ninja Life Hacks book set includes stories on topics like love, compassion, and support that could spark some motivation to implement positive . I also love the wrinkled heart metaphor as a concrete way to convey the importance of thinking before you say something you don’t mean. I hope everyone makes some time to do something that fills your heart today. Much love!

This is a great visual representation for feelings of grief. I would add a button on the bottom of the jar as well and imagine that as the ball rolls around the jar there will be times when the ball would roll over the button and trigger thoughts and feelings of grief. The holidays can be an exceptionally difficult time when experiences and memories may be more intense. Check on your loved ones and be patient with yourself 💛 Victoria at Tread Deep Counseling PLLC is a great local counselor for adults if you find yourself needing some additional support this season.

✨Choice Giving✨ is one of my favorite therapeutic skills. Garry Landreth says, “give little choices for little kids and big choices for big kids”. When you allow children to make decisions from a young age they learn that they are capable of making choices and can gently experience both the positive and negative consequences associated with these choices. There are many times in life where there are not step by step instructions and this can be quite intimidating for kids who have never had the opportunity to make choices before. Choice giving for young children can be as simple as, “Do you choose to wear the red shirt or purple shirt today?” or “Do you choose grapes or an apple with lunch?”. As kids become teenagers the choices may sound like “Do you choose to hang out with your new friends or your old friends tonight? or “Do you choose to drive your car at 65mph or 85mph?”. These big kid questions could feel quite overwhelming if you’ve never had practice making decisions. It also allows you as a parent to practice allowing your child, age appropriate, autonomy so you have more confidence in your child’s ability to navigate decisions. What choice can you give your kiddos today?

5:30pm sunsets are not my favorite but I am thankful to live in NC where we can get outside and get some Vitamin D ☀️ year around. Seasonal affective disorder is a real thing and many people report changes in energy and mood during the winter months. Children are no different and this in combination with changes in meal times and sleep schedules can be a natural cause for behavioral difficulties this time of year. Even on cold days encourage your family to bundle up and get outside to . Those endorphins can be a great mood booster. Sincerely, your frozen counselor who cannot wait until Spring

This is such an important message to remember around the holidays. There are many generational messages that may suggest what a “well behaved child” may look like. Remember, children are commonly emotionally expressive beings so happiness and joy can easily look like hyperactivity and difficulties listening. Changes in routines, spending time with different people, and shifts in environment could all be natural causes for changes in behavior. Be patient with yourself and with your child and establish boundaries with extended family as needed. We can learn a lot about and from our kiddos so 💛 We are wishing you and yours a wonderful, healthy, and loving holiday season.

There’s just something about decorating throughout the year that can bring a sense of joy. Do you enjoy generic Fall decor 🍁, cute Halloween 🎃 or spooky Halloween 👻? The farm location has a little bit of everything this year. Our equine specialists also regularly monitor equine safety and love that decorations double as desensitization tools. Swipe left to see what the horses think of things flying through the trees.

Accepting compliments may sound easy but difficulties accepting compliments is actually quite common. It’s one thing to be able to say, thank you but quite another to be able to genuinely allow oneself to accept another person’s observation into their self concept. On the flip side, accepting criticism is an art within itself as well. Exploration of one’s values, boundaries, current self esteem, past relationships, and mood could all play into this. Everyone is unique but both compliments and feedback can contribute to growth and knowing your own recipe for motivation and growth is a powerful skill.

Enjoyed some time in the beautiful NC mountains at Horse Sense of the Carolinas, Inc. expanding our knowledge of equine assisted growth and learning. We are so thankful for a beautiful week, sweet ponies, and all the new connections we made with other professionals who also love this work. (My secret counselor hack is scheduling CEUs in places that can double as vacation 😉) Excited to be home and share this information with the community.

This ^^^ 👏🏽 There never seems to be enough time and it can feel like everything needed to be accomplished yesterday but quick fixes are just that, quick fixes! I love this quote as it relates to parenting. Are there ways to encourage children to make behavioral changes in a few short weeks? Sure. Do those bandaids keep the child from getting the cut in the first place? Probably not. When we slow down and take the time it takes to do things like build a stronger relationship and discover a child’s intrinsic motivation we can promote the learning of skills and create meaningful change that can stay with a person throughout their life.

This event ended up raising nearly $6500 for Go Jen Go! We had the best time spending the day with Tread Deep Counseling PLLC who sees and adults at her farm location (right across the street from us) and talking to community members. We cannot wait to be apart of this wonderful event again next year!

Nothing like the first page of a fresh new journal 📓✏️ Shout out to all the school supplies lovers like myself 🙋🏽‍♀️ For some kids, journaling can be a great outlet. It can be used to document significant events and promote organization of thoughts and feelings. Journaling can help get thoughts and worries out of one’s thinking cycle so they can fall asleep 😴. It could also be used as a log of positive achievements so kids have evidence of their strengths and accomplishments during times when they’re not feeling confident. There are also great journals out there with prompts to promote the parent child relationship. So many ways to use journaling and any pen and paper will do!

With many kids going back to school these next few weeks, belonging and acceptance has been a hot topic lately. Remind your kiddos of the qualities you and about them. True friends will accept you just as you are. Be yourself and trust that the right people will be drawn to this genuine energy. Remind yourself of your values and goals and chances are you will find connections with others along your journey this school year.

A common anxious thought in starting counseling can be, “But I don’t want to burden anyone with my problems.” Counseling is a safe place where we make a point to remind our clients that they never have to be alone with overwhelming feelings and you and your feelings are never a burden! Even when clients express that they need space, the natural environment allows clients to realize that they still don’t have to walk through the “mud” in life alone 🐴🐾🦌 🧠
