Strength Training does NOT have an age limit!

At the age of 86, Wayne, started personal training with Momentum Performance following a couple of years of being sedentary due to Covid. During this time he noticed he was losing muscle mass and becoming fearful of falling. He is now doing things that he didn’t think he could do decades ago!

Strength training is for everyone and the list of benefits are immense for senior citizens. At MP, we combine our education in Physical Therapy with decades of experience to prescribe exercise that gives members the safest and most effective workouts. If you or a loved one are interested in starting back or for the first time with working out, please contact us to get started!

We’d like to announce our newest trainer joining the team, Kym, who is no stranger to health and fitness. Having spent the past 15 years as a CPT, Fitness and SPIN instructor, she has a deep passion for helping others succeed in their health endeavors. Before coming to Momentum Performance, Kym has worked in multiple settings including various health clubs, corporate wellness, and kid’s health/education. Her most rewarding job has been being a mom to her two young children, Everleigh (8) and Jameson (5).

When Kym isn’t working or being a mom, she loves playing all types of sports, even the ones she is terrible at. She’s on the hunt for the best Mexican food in North Carolina, and above all loves serving alongside her husband at their church.

Kym is excited to be joining the Momentum Performance team and is looking forward to building solid relationships with its members and staff. Welcome, Kym!

Upright Rower Technique - Ski Erg Equipment

While we keep being teased with warmer weather and sunny weather lately in Lake Norman, we wanted to take a second to discuss our new toy that resembles skiing. The SkiErg, also known as an upright rower, is a quick way to get your heart rate up while utilizing all of the big posterior muscles–glutes, hamstrings, lats, and triceps. Let’s walk you through the 3 steps towards a kick butt (pun intended) cardio experience.

1️⃣ Start with arms up and slightly bent with elbows at eye level, soft bend in the knees, feet hip width apart.

2️⃣ Initiate the movement by simultaneously driving your hands and butt straight behind you (think hinge, not squat) while bracing with your core and keeping your chin tucked.

3️⃣ Return to standing position by bringing your hips forwards and allowing your hands to rest back at the starting position.

Common errors include:
👉 Excessive knee bend, don’t do a full squat
👉 Using only your arms to complete the movement
👉 Arching your back - keep that core tight to help stabilize
👉 Not returning to the full standing position after each rep

🥳 First week open in the books! Thanks to everyone who has come to check out the space and such positive feedback.

Now that we’re OPEN, we wanted to take the opportunity to introduce ourselves and provide details of our unique offering of both personal training and physical therapy. 

While it’s difficult to fully describe our wealth of experience within the rehab and performance field in a quick post, we hope that this gives you a good idea of what we offer and who we are!
