Why do some people need a bone graft before they get an implant?

A Dental Implant needs something to grab onto to make sure it is strong and stable. If you don't have enough bone to support the implant a graft can be placed to help rebuild what you are missing.

Having a bone graft is what makes the implant predictable and long lasting. Think of it like the cement that is poured prior to building a house. You have to start with a strong foundation to get the best result!

WHY CAN'T I USE A STRAW AFTER A TOOTH EXTRACTION?

Using a straw creates suction which can pull the blood clot out of the extraction site. If this happens you can develop a DRY SOCKET, and NOBOODY wants that! So avoid those straws for 1 WEEK after surgery!

OUR TIPS FOR A SUCCESSFUL RECOVERY AFTER ORAL SURGERY

*Use ice for the first 24 hours only

*Your pain and swelling may peak on the 2nd or 3rd day(not counting your surgery day). It should start to get better GRADUALLY each day.

*Take it easy ad relax around the house for a few days. Remember, no heavy lifting or strenuous activity(anything that increases your heart rate) for 5-7 days.

*Maintain a soft food diet this week and do not use straws!

* Keep up with your rinsing. It keeps those surgical areas clean! Continue until the holes are completely gone. This may take several weeks!
