Movement Snack Monday!

Today we bring you Adductor Rocking and an Adductor Hip Hinge (see video).

To perform Adductor Rocking you will start on hands and knees and prop one leg out to the side. You’ll then hinge your bottom back. Repeat 10-20x for some great hip mobility and groin stretch.

Advance from rocking to the hip hinge. To complete this, move to a kneeling position with the leg propped out to the side. Stick your bottom back and then drive the hips back forward.
You’ll get the same mobility benefit as well as reinforcement for hip hinging control and strength to help back, hip and knee pain!

Movement Snack Monday - Kids Choice Edition

The Gilbert kiddos picked Alternating Bird Dogs for the movement snack today!

While on hands and knees, alternate lifting opposite arms and legs while maintaining a neutral spine and pelvis. You can add difficulty by crossing underneath to tap elbow to knee, add resistance band from foot to hand, or prop on your toes so the knees are elevated just above the ground. Or add a child to your back…

Great snack to improve:
✅ Rotational and core control
✅ Glute dominate hip extension
✅ Shoulder and scapular control

Marathon Monday Movement Snack!

Big shout out to all the Boston Marathoners, especially our local runners.

This one is for the runners out there but it’s also a great snack for anyone. Improve trunk control and running form while building up strength!

Rearfoot Elevated Squat and option for trunk rotation:
1️⃣Set yourself up seated at the edge of your chair with the legs extended. Bend one knee to get the foot flat (this will be your front leg).
2️⃣Use the other foot and support if needed to stand up and place your rear leg on the chair or elevated surface.
3️⃣Work on driving the rear knee toward the floor without bending the trunk forward.
4️⃣Bonus, add a rotation with the hands behind the head and keeping your hips in place

Movement Snack Monday!

This week Dr Gilbert is demonstrating a quadruped (hands and knees position) to half kneeling transition.

Start on hands and knees and stay stable while placing one foot by your hands and coming up onto one knee and one foot.

Switch back to hands and knees kicking the leg back, and then attempt again lifting your hands and foot at the same time.

Improves:
✅ hip mobility
✅ core and hip strength
✅ stability during transfers

Try it out this week for a quick snack!

This camp is such a great opportunity for middle and high school runners! Get faster and stronger while building lifelong relationships and a greater passion for running!

Not to mention, a chance to work with out very own Dr. Gilbert! He has the honor of providing care for runners at this camp again this year. He's ready to help whether its those little niggles during camp that just need a boost for recovery, or an assessment of recurrent injuries or movement issues that tend to pop up in season.
