💭 My grandpa lives with dementia now. Some days he asks if I’m at work or if someone is taking care of him. In his mind, he’s still living with my grandma and me.
But beneath those questions are the memories he can’t let go of — scars from re-education camp, nights of hunger, humiliation after fighting beside Americans who called him an “ally” yet treated him as disposable.
This is the part America doesn’t see. To many, he’s just an old man in a chair. To me, he’s a war hero — a survivor of exile, silence, and broken promises.
🕊️ If you want to understand us, the descendants of these survivors, please don’t dismiss our pain as “the past.” History lingers. It’s carried in the bones of those who endured, and in their children and grandchildren.
✨ I’m taking a step back from massage right now to care for him, and to honor the weight of his story. Thank you for your understanding and patience during this time.
