Somatic mindfulness is the practice of bringing awareness to the body and not just the mind. Being body oriented therapy in the here and now, somatic therapy helps to create new internal experiences to contradict the tension and overwhelm in the body and restore functioning.
When stress, trauma, or overwhelming emotions build up, the body often carries what the mind canβt fully process. This can show up as tightness in the chest, knots in the stomach, or tension in the shoulders.
By gently turning attention to breath, internal sensations, and posture, somatic mindfulness helps reconnect body and mind. Over time, this practice increases emotional regulation, reduces stress, and deepens a sense of safety within yourself. Itβs not about forcing the body to relax, but learning to listen to its signals with curiosity and care.
