the clarity we’ve been getting in our liquid cultures by using dextrose as opposed to honey/corn syrup/LME/DME etc. has been awesome.

we’ve found that additives like nutritional yeast and soy peptone in large amounts really cloud the jars, but dextrose just seems to disappear when sterilized.

we ph our liquid cultures based of their genus/species with the addition of KH₂PO₄ (monopotassium phosphate) and it really stabilizes the useful life of the cultures by acting as a ph buffer.

this particular culture does have a small amount of DME and a minuscule amount of soy peptone but not enough to haze the clarity.

we’re always working to evolve our premium liquid cultures, and when the results knock it out of the park, it’s a happy day over here. 🤙🏻

(this culture is now available in our Etsy shop, if you’re interested, link in bio)

First bioluminescent mushroom test run✨
Panellus stipticus (Bitter Oyster)

The glow comes from a chemical reaction involving luciferin and luciferase (similar to fireflies) producing a soft green light visible in total darkness after your eyes adjust.

Unfortunately, not edible but sure is pretty.

✨ Reishi Sessile ✨

The lesser-known cousin of Ganoderma lucidum. Instead of tall, shelf-like conks, sessile grows into clusters of glossy rosettes, each rimmed with a creamy white edge that develops slowly over time. The name itself means “without a stalk”.

Found mainly in Europe on hardwoods like oak and beech, it carries the same beta-glucans, triterpenes, and antioxidants that have made reishi such a symbol of resilience and longevity. 🌿

Interested in growing your own? Reishi Sessile Cultures are now available in our Etsy shop 🤗 ~ link in bio.

Maitake “brains”.
Before and after dehydrating.

The PMC link below outlines a 2018 study in which researchers found a natural extract from Maitake mushrooms, called D-Fraction, shows promise by killing Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) cells.

The extract was shown to reduce the spread of these cells by slowing tumor growth in lab and animal studies—suggesting it could be a powerful new tool against TNBC.

Trametes Versicolor, more commonly known as Turkey Tail 🦃, is receiving much deserved attention these days.

They have been found to have several potential health benefits, including:

1. Immune system support: They contain polysaccharide-K (PSK), a protein-bound polysaccharide that may stimulate the immune system and increase its response to infection.
2. Antioxidant properties: Turkey tail mushrooms have been shown to have antioxidant properties, which can help protect cells from damage caused by free radicals.
3. Anti-inflammatory properties: They may also have anti-inflammatory properties, which can help reduce inflammation and improve overall health.
4. Cancer treatment: Some studies suggest that PSK may have anti-tumor properties and may be beneficial in combination with traditional cancer treatments.
5. Digestive health: Turkey tail mushrooms contain prebiotic fibers that can help support gut health and promote a balanced gut microbiome.

While these potential benefits are promising, it's essential to consult with a healthcare professional before using turkey tail mushrooms as a treatment for any health condition.

Hericium erinaceus, or more commonly known as Lion’s Mane. 🦁

Renowned for its unique taste that is described as similar to seafood or crab. 🦀

Lion’s Mane is high in vitamins and essential minerals such as thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, manganese, zinc, and potassium!

Preliminary studies suggest Lion’s Mane may help fight inflammation, promote nerve regeneration and help fight against dementia.

It’s also delicious and can be eaten cooked or dried and ground in capsules or made into extract or tea. 🍵

We grow our lions mane on oak hardwood and wheat bran.
