On the Absolute Sincerity of Great Physicians, which has been called “the Chinese Hippocratic Oath written by the immortal divine physician, Sun Simiao:
"When I go to treat an illness I first must calm my mind and make steadfast my intentions.
I shall not give way to idle wishes and desires but should first develop an attitude of compassion.
I vow to rescue all living beings from their sufferings.
If anyone comes to me because of an illness or any other difficulty I will not concern myself with whether they are powerful or humble, rich or poor, old or young, beautiful or ugly.
Enemies, relatives, good friends, Chinese or foreigners, foolish and wise, they all are the same to me. I will think of each of them of them as a close and loved relative – or indeed as if it was I who had been struck down by an illness.
I shall not worry about my own life or my fortunes or misfortunes. My purpose is to preserve the life of others.
I shall not hide away in the mountains. Day and night, in cold and heat, in hunger, thirst and fatigue, I will single-mindedly go to the rescue. If I am able to act in this manner I may approach being a great doctor for those who are sick. If I act contrary to these precepts I am no more than a great thief to those who are alive.
People all too often look with contempt on those who suffer from abominable things, such as ulcers or diarrhea, however I shall maintain an attitude of compassion, sympathy and care. Never in a great physician should there arise an attitude of rejection.
I will not glory in my reputation. I will not discredit other physicians while I praise my own virtues.
Thus I shall fulfill my responsibilities and my destiny as a physician until I am no longer capable of fulfilling my obligations, or until the end of my lifetime".
Sobre la absoluta sinceridad de los grandes médicos, que se ha denominado “el juramento hipocrático chino”. Escrito por el inmortal médico divino, Sun Simiao:
"Cuando voy a tratar una enfermedad, primero debo calmar mi mente y hacer firmes mis intenciones.
No cederé a deseos y anhelos vanos, sino que primero debo desarrollar una actitud de compasión.
Hago el voto de rescatar a todos los seres vivos de sus sufrimientos.
Si alguien viene a mí debido a una enfermedad o cualquier otra dificultad, no me preocuparé de si es poderoso o humilde, rico o pobre, viejo o joven, hermoso o feo.
Enemigos, parientes, buenos amigos, chinos o extranjeros, tontos y sabios, todos son lo mismo para mí. Pensaré en cada uno de ellos como un pariente cercano y amado, o incluso como si fuera yo quien hubiera sido abatido por una enfermedad.
No me preocuparé por mi propia vida ni por mi fortuna o mis desgracias. Mi propósito es preservar la vida de los demás.
No me esconderé en las montañas. Día y noche, con frío y calor, con hambre, sed y fatiga, iré con un solo propósito al rescate. Si Puedo actuar de esta manera, puedo llegar a ser un gran médico para los enfermos. Si actúo en contra de estos preceptos, no soy más que un gran ladrón para los que están vivos.
La gente mira con demasiada frecuencia con desprecio a quienes padecen cosas abominables, como úlceras o diarreas, sin embargo mantendré una actitud de compasión, simpatía y cuidado. Nunca en un gran médico debe surgir una actitud de rechazo.
No me gloriaré en mi reputación. No desacreditaré a otros médicos mientras alabo mis propias virtudes.
Así cumpliré con mis responsabilidades y mi destino como médico hasta que ya no sea capaz de cumplir con mis obligaciones, o hasta el final de mi vida".
