I copied this. I find this so important for everyone. Especially parents with children that love these computers and don't go out as much as we did as a kid!
Getting natural light and grounding are KEY for healthy mitochondria.
Think of our mitochondria as little batteries inside our cells. They are the powerhouse of the cell. The light from the sun powers these little batteries.
Now imagine if you took a solar light indoors all day and all night and you NEVER took it outside. Within a very short time that little solar light would go dim and eventually not light up at all. This is what’s happening to our mitochondria when we live indoors all the time and rarely seen natural sunlight. Our man made lights don’t do the trick, just as they don’t do the trick to charge that little solar light. We need mother natures sunlight. We need ALL the rays of light.
And if you’re going out with sunscreen and sunglasses and contact lenses and glasses on your eyes, you’re blocking that light. So, we have to get out more often, especially in the morning during sunrise, around lunch to get a little UVB and again at sunset to get that nice red glow of UVA which tells our bodies to stop making cortisol and start pumping out melatonin. This is the way we operate. It’s as simple as that.
The good news is, our lights or batteries if you will aren’t out completely or we’d be 6 feet under. So we still have plenty of time to charge our batteries. We have to go all-in to recharge our batteries. This is why I’ve been preaching this. I fully believe it is a key part of this healing process. In fact, I’m going to go so far to say that our light diet is more important than our food diet. Yep! I said it. And I believe it. Once you start to “see the light” you’ll actually crave it. Artificial light will even start bothering your eyes. This is when you really know you’re making the shift.
Little signs for me are I no longer sneeze at the sun (yep…this means you aren’t getting enough natural light in your eyes). I no longer wake up with numb or tingling hands. I no longer have lower back pain. I no longer have a SED rate of 75 (it’s now 5!). I sleep better. I have wild energy during the day. I feel better than I have since I was a kid! I am healthy. I am healing! This takes time. It doesnt happen overnight. In fact it took nearly a year and a half for the sed rate to drop to normal range of 5! So, if you’re doing this, hang in there. Be patient. Be consistent. And you will be blessed with all these things and more. Your mitochondria will start glowing again and this is when the body can REALLY heal.
And let’s talk about grounding for a moment. The surface of the earth has an unlimited amount of electrons on it. It is negatively charged, while we humans can accumulate a positive charge. When we make contact with the earth with bare skin we are neutralizing our positive charge. We are gathering electrons. Look at it like, every time you’re in sunlight and every time you are grounding you are gathering electrons. We always want to be gathering electrons.
Also, did you know that when you eat, eating is really about gathering the electrons from the food? So when we eat ultra processed foods we are gathering very few electrons. But when we are eating REAL foods like seafood, vegetables and fruits we are gathering way more electrons. Picking an apple off a tree and eating it immediately and you’re gathering even more electrons. So the fresher the better.
So, it’s not only food that feeds us. It’s the sun and the earth. Electrons are a crucial part of the process in which mitochondria produce energy via the electron transport chain.
So, if we want to improve mitochondrial health getting outside in natural light, touching the earth with our bare skin is essential. If you skip this step no amount of perfect diet or supplements is going to fix you. This is step one in healing. Then the food and supplements and exercise and other modalities fall behind this. Those things can only get you so far without the right light diet.
Here are a list of supplements that help improve mitochondrial health. But these are not a replacement for sunlight.
