August is National Sun Safety Month - be safe while having fun out in the sun!

Older adults are more susceptible to the effects of heat and sun for several reasons: their bodies may not regulate temperature as efficiently, they might have a diminished sense of thirst, and certain medications can increase sensitivity to heat or sun.

🎉We are thrilled to welcome our new Dietary Manager, Eddie Smith! 🎉

"I started to learn the passion for cooking while watching my mother cook in the kitchen. I would sit on the counter with my feet dangling off, watching, learning, and helping. At the age of 6, I created my first dish. After high school, I joined the United States Navy and traveled. The different cultures help to advance my palate and knowledge of food. After the military, I worked for FedEx Freight, with great pay, but I was not content with my job. P.F. Chang's was my first major restaurant that I worked for. I started as a prep cook and worked my way up to sous-chef. I helped open smaller restaurants in upstate NY, and completed my first restaurant menu at the age of 24. After P.F. Chang's, I stepped away from corporate and started working and opening restaurants along the East Coast. After playing semi-pro football for 3 years, my wife and I decided to start our own food company and launched The Golden Link. We started small by selling premade meals and then were launched into the world of athletics, where we cooked for professional athletes. After some life changes, the family moved to Huntington, WV, with the grace of God, and turned our business into a non-profit. We currently give away and ship food to anyone, anywhere in need. God has blessed our family and has led me to Huntington Health & Rehabilitation, where I look forward to bringing delicious and nutritious food to residents and being a shining light to make a difference here! Now let's get cookin!!"
