The Point Café Needs Your Help! 🎒📚

We’re excited to announce our Back-to-School Bookbag Drive to support students in our community — and we could really use your help!

There are several ways you can contribute:
✨ Donate new bookbags
✨ Drop off or send school supplies (colored pencils, pencils, paper, binders, pencil pouches, dividers, folders, rulers, highlighters, lunchboxes, etc.)
✨ Or go the extra mile and fill a bookbag with supplies yourself!

However you choose to give, donations can be dropped off or mailed to:

Need help getting your donation to us? We’re happy to arrange pick-up within a reasonable distance of Huntington!

Every child deserves the tools they need to thrive in the classroom, and your support helps make that possible. We'll be distributing the bookbags at The Point Café right up until school starts.

As the new school year approaches, many children in our community are in need of essential school supplies and bookbags. Join The Point Café to help them to help them start the year off right!

We're collecting donations of:
- New bookbags/backpacks
- Notebooks, folders, and binders
- Pens, pencils, erasers, and highlighters
- Crayons, colored pencils, and markers
- Glue sticks, scissors, and rulers
- Other basic school supplies

How you can help:
- Donate supplies – Drop off items at The Point Café 630 8th Ave Huntington WV 25701 or we can pick-up if needed

- Sponsor a student – Monetary donations are also welcome. We’ll do the shopping for you!

- Spread the word – Share this message with your friends, family, and coworkers.

Our awesome PRSS, Drew, spent the day at the Cabell County Home Confinement Office sharing information about the many valuable resources available just down the road at The Point Café!

Thank you to the Cabell County Home Confinement Office for welcoming us and giving us the opportunity to connect with individuals who are actively working to better their lives. We’re honored to support them on their journey! 💙

Yesterday, our amazing Peer Recovery Support Specialist (PRSS), Drew, had the honor of speaking at the Cabell County Youth Council meeting, hosted by the Region 2 Workforce Investment Board. This special meeting was a part of their annual Youth Celebration — a time to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments, growth, and achievements of youth over the past year. 🏆✨

During the meeting, we shared updates on local youth progress, discussed ways we can further support young people in our communities, and explored available resources. We also highlighted the services offered by The Point Café, including recovery support, help with basic needs, mentorship, and more.

Drew shared his personal story, reflecting on his childhood and the many obstacles he overcame to become who he is today. His journey is a powerful reminder that no matter how hard life may get, there is always hope and a path forward. Drew continues to inspire not just the youth in our community and at The Point Café, but everyone who hears his story.

We’re proud to be a part of events like this and grateful for the opportunity to walk alongside the next generation as they build brighter futures. 💙

The Point Café’s Peer Recovery Support Specialists (PRSS) are at the Huntington City Mission today until 1:00 p.m., offering helpful resources and snack bag vouchers to support our unhoused neighbors in the community. 🫶🏼☀️

☕️ About The Point Café:
The Point Café is a recovery community resource center dedicated to empowering individuals on their journey toward healing and stability. We offer a safe, welcoming space for anyone in recovery or facing challenges such as substance use disorder, mental health struggles, domestic violence, homelessness, low self-esteem, and more.

Our available resources include:
• Free coffee, emergency food boxes and hygiene supplies
• Assistance with IDs, Social Security cards, and birth certificates
• Transportation help (bus passes, Routes to Recovery, etc.)
• Mental Health referrals
• Peer support & PRSS classes
• Fun, healing activities and classes
• A clothing closet and job readiness support

This week, we proudly celebrated 3 years since the grand opening of The Point Café — and it’s all thanks to YOU!

We owe this incredible milestone to our dedicated community members, passionate volunteers, supportive organizations, and the amazing staff who have been part of our journey over the years. Your support has helped us grow, serve, and create a safe, welcoming space for healing and hope.

We’re proud of how far we’ve come — and even more excited for what’s ahead. The next 3 years are going to be bigger, better, and full of purpose. Stay with us as we continue building something truly special. 💛

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to WSAZ NewsChannel 3 for having us on today! It was a pleasure sharing about our Women in Harmony: A Support Group for Women, which meets every Tuesday from 3–4 PM, as well as highlighting the many resources available at The Point Café.

From transportation services, bus passes, and assistance with childcare costs, to help obtaining ID cards, birth certificates, and employment or educational support—we’re here to help. We also proudly offer referrals for mental health and substance use disorder services.
