PROACT also accepts self-referrals and referrals from community providers. Walk-ins are always welcome.

The Provider Response Organization for Addiction Care & Treatment (PROACT) provides comprehensive assessment, education, intervention and addiction treatment solutions in a single accessible service hub. Bringing together behavioral, social and medical resources from the community, our team works together to deliver care to individuals in every stage of treatment and recovery. Our outpatient medical facility serves as a single regional referral point to assess patients following discharge from local emergency rooms and inpatient detox units and by referral from quick response and other emergency medical response teams.

Yesterday, our Marshall Health and ProAct WV Inc. teams joined events across West Virginia, providing free naloxone (Narcan) to help reverse opioid overdoses and save lives. 💚

Dr. Hansen is the medical director of ProAct WV Inc., leading clinical and medication-assisted treatment (MAT) programs for individuals with substance use disorder.

A pioneer in MAT services with over 15 years of experience, he played a key role in establishing ProAct WV Inc. and continues to advance addiction care in our region. He’s also an assistant professor at Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, shaping the next generation of addiction specialists.

Meet Dathan, a dedicated member of the ProAct WV Inc. team whose journey from the cardiology unit at St. Mary's Medical Center sparked his passion for addiction recovery. 💚

For Dathan, recovery is about the success stories — seeing patients return to work, find housing, raise families and shift conversations from struggles to weekend plans. Those moments are what fuel his commitment every day.

When he’s not making a difference at PROACT, Dathan enjoys golf, running, group workouts and diving into a good book. His wife, children and faith help him recharge and keep life in perspective.

Marshall Health hosted its second annual Hope Blooms fundraiser event Saturday, June 14, 2025, at the Marshall Health Network Arena. The event, presented by title sponsor Innsena, raised support for Project Hope for Women & Children, a premier residential treatment facility in downtown Huntington for women with substance use disorders and their children. A sold-out crowd enjoyed brunch and a fashion show and heard encouraging stories.
