Random Acts of Kindness Day is a reminder that small, selfless gestures can create a ripple effect of positivity that strengthens social bonds and promotes emotional well-being.

Opening a door for someone, offering up encouraging words or simply acknowledging your co-worker in the hallway will go a long way to making kindness the norm. It helps to foster the service excellence culture at River Park Hospital.

February is Recreational Therapy Month ⭐

River Park Hospital offers recreational therapy as part of our comprehensive mental health care services. Recreational therapy uses the APIE process —assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation—to help patients work toward meaningful treatment outcomes. It addresses key areas of functioning, including social interpersonal skills, emotional regulation, cognitive functioning, physical mobility and more. The opportunities for growth and progress are endless through recreational therapy.

This month, we recognize the value of recreational therapy and thank our staff for the meaningful work they do every day.

In honor of this year’s big game, our patients and team members participated in a watch party featuring pizza and snacks. We invited our staff to share their favorite memories from past games, and their responses included iconic halftime shows, unforgettable commercials and personal family moments.

From U2’s moving tribute to the victims of 9/11, to memorable performances by Prince, Bruno Mars, and BeyoncĂ©, as well as significant wins and cherished family events, these stories highlight the unique ways the big game brings us all together. We invite you to share your favorite big game memory with us!

Our Adolescent 30-Day Chemical Dependency program offers inpatient services to youth who are in the state's custody who are struggling with their mental health and substance use issues. This care is provided by a multidisciplinary team consisting of a psychiatrist, therapist and other trained mental health professionals.

This short-term program focuses on trauma-focused therapy modalities to get to the root causes of substance use and to help teens break the larger cycle of addiction. Adopting nationally recognized substance use programs, individualized treatment plans offer support services including drug and alcohol education, coping skills, group and individual therapy.

In our program, patients can start the recovery process for both their mental health and substance use issues. Watch this video to learn more.

River Park Hospital's 30 Day Diagnostic Program offers inpatient care while the patient is participating in psychological testing. This program is for child and adolescent males and females, ages 10 to 17, that are in States custody. It takes a team approach, providing therapy services, nursing care, case management, medication management, meetings with a psychiatrist and a psychologist who administers the testing.

During the course of the patients stay in this program, we will start planning discharge needs and work to identify services that could benefit the patient. The testing that will be done will give us and the treatment team a better idea of how we can best serve this patient and help him or her be more successful once they leave our facility.

Watch this video to hear Dr. Melvin, the psychiatrist that will be working with patients, to learn more. We are grateful to be able to utilize his expertise with our patients.
