Have you ever wondered why the dentist recommended your child to see an orthodontist at a young age?

At your child’s dental appointment, we can quickly assess things such as crowding of teeth and possible narrow airways. We then may recommend seeing an orthodontist for an early phase of orthodontics, such as an expander, based on what we see.

This early step in your child’s dental health journey not only can result in nice aesthetic results for their teeth, but can aid them in their overall health.

Proper teeth and jaw alignment can prevent TMJ issues and decay due to hard to clean areas with misaligned teeth. Expanding a palate before the bones are fused can expand a child’s airway preventing some sleep disorders. Fixing this at a young age can be beneficial to them well into adulthood.

As I get the privilege to go talk to a few different age groups within local schools, one common thing I find out is that most kids have only been taught to brush in the morning. They are so shocked when I say that bed time is actually more important! Please establish bed time brushing as part of their routine! -Jordan, RDH
