We are excited to wrap up 2024 and look ahead to 2025! There have been many amazing businesses in the mix in both The Progress Building and the 6th Avenue building, so we wanted to take a moment to recognize everything that has happened this year. Although 2024 brought the closing of much-loved beverage store Apex Beverage Company, it brought the opening of The Jewel, Side Street Creative, Big Maudlin Duck, Iron Hand Barbers (at 930 6th Avenue), and most recently 8th Street Barber Shop! We hosted pop ups with Abbey Shae Bakes, Book Style Specialist, and Fresh Cut Kenova , participated in the Downtown Huntington Art Walk and provided the venue for an incredible event for the West Virginia Women's Alliance. We are incredibly excited to be able to provide space for these innovative, creative businesses and to contribute to the vitality and excitement happening in Downtown Huntington. We do have some space available on our first floor, so please reach out if you have an idea you'd like to make a reality!! Happy Holidays!!

We are incredibly excited to announce 📣 8th Street Barber Shop 📣 will be moving into Suite B in December!! Our goal in developing The Progress Building has always been to support amazing businesses and hook them up with space that makes them look like the rock stars that they are ✨ These guys are the perfect fit for the space!! Y’all please join us in welcoming them to the building!!!

This month marks 8 years since the inception of 8th Street Barbershop. It was sudden. I was 23, new to the Huntington area, and I didn’t know much at all about running a business—licenses, taxes, equipment; I learned it all through Google searches and advice from clients, friends, and family who were willing to share what they knew.

What I did know was people. I’ve always believed in treating others the way I’d want to be treated, with kindness and understanding—and that mindset has carried me this far.

Today, we have an incredible team of barbers who’ve joined us over the years, many of them who came fresh out of school, ready to grow their skills and build a clientele. I’m proud of the atmosphere we’ve created, the services we offer, and the strong client relationships we’ve built through trust and community.

So, I’m excited to share that 8th Street Barbershop is moving—just half a block down the street! We’re creating a new space that reflects everything we’ve built over the last 8 years. Our whole team--Nate, Triston, Seth, and Arrick—will be coming with us, and in December, we’ll be opening in the Progress Building, Suite B, with a fresh look in a modernized space. This new space lets us serve an even broader range of clients. It’s completely ADA accessible (bathrooms included!), near public parking, and closer to downtown. You can actually see the building from our current shop, so we’re not going far. And importantly, we get to keep the name—it’ll still be 8th Street Barbershop.

This move wouldn’t be possible without our clients’ continued support and trust. We are so stoked to show you and post sneak peeks over this next month. Please bear with us as we make this transition. We’re doing everything to keep it smooth, and we’d be so grateful if you’d help spread the word. Keep an eye out for a save-the-date—we want you to come celebrate with us.

We’ve come a long way, baby. Over a year has passed since we first purchased the building, and it has been an amazing journey to uncover its history and original beauty. We have learned that the building was used as a taxi garage at one time, as well as a service shop for Sears & Roebuck for sewing machines and later automobiles. Renovations in the 1950’s made significant changes to the building that weren’t in keeping with its historic character, so we’ve peeled back those layers to uncover the original structure. The existing elevator was not able to be repaired, so we’ve installed a brand new elevator, as well as a second interior stair. The plan for the first floor is to create a community of retail shops and restaurants featuring local artists, artisans, craftspeople and specialty food and drink products to showcase Huntington’s local food and art scene. The upper levels can be built out as open, flexible office space for shared use, as dedicated office space, or even for specialty services like a spa! As the owners of the building, we are a professional architect and contractor, so we’re able to design construct the space to create the space that reflects your vision for your business. We are looking forward to working with businesses as you become a part of the story of the Progress Building!
