Summer Waugh, RN, mother baby unit; Dr. Jessica Buerck, Marshall Health OB/GYN and CHH OB/GYN section chief; and Chrystal Johnson, RN, labor and delivery, all members of our Maternity Center team, were in attendance this week for the Postpartum Support International (PSI) West Virginia Chapter (Psi-WV) Conference on Perinatal Mood Disorders in Charleston.

According to PSI, approximately 15% of all women will experience postpartum depression following the birth of a child. When the mental health of the mother is compromised, it affects the entire family.

A research project led by Dr. Jennie Yoost earned national recognition from the North American Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology.

The project, titled “Use of an Online Oral Contraceptive Pill Module among Resident Physicians,” was showcased earlier this month at the NASPAG’s annual meeting, where it received the Resident Education Committee Award for Innovation in Medical Education.

Marshall Ob/Gyn and Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecologist Dr. Jennie Yoost and Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine student Olivia Hart Moore (’26) shared their research at the North American Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology conference in Toronto last week! 🌍🎓

Their project, "Social Media Use Increases Anxiety and Pain with Office IUD Insertion," shows how exposure to negative IUD content on social media can lead to higher anxiety and pain before and after the procedure. 😬📱 The more time spent on social media, the greater the impact!
