Wellness Matters: Dr. Dawn

Wellness Matters: Dr. Dawn Welcome! At Wellness Matters you’ll find healing: naturopathic medicine, acupuncture, reiki & more!

People who come across naturopathic medicine for the first time don’t always understand the rigor of education that licensed NDs complete. While naturopathy certificate programs can be helpful for one’s personal understanding of natural medicine, they are unregulated and unaccredited.

A certificate is not a substitute for 4 years of doctorate-level education and hands-on clinical experience that only accredited ND schools offer. Further, diagnosing and treating patients without a license can land you in legal hot water.

💚Initial appointments here at Wellness Matters are two hours … we really get to know our patients here! Taking time matters… wellness matters… nutrition matters… it all matters!

the average primary care visit in a conventional setting is only about 16 minutes, with approximately five of that as time spent by the patient speaking*?

A patient’s first visit with a naturopathic doctor may take anywhere from 60 to 90 minutes, prioritizing getting to know the whole patient sitting in front of them in order to get to the root cause of their symptoms.

🌟 Bravo AANP!

💚 Let’s keep spreading the wonderful word about Naturopathic Medicine & how healing it is and needed more than ever for the health of ourselves & our loved ones!

This week, the AANP formally called on the US Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) and the Department of Education to recognize ND education as the nation’s most comprehensive model for physician-level nutrition training.

Why this matters:
-ND programs provide upwards of 220 hours of nutrition training vs. just a few hours in most MD programs.

-NDs are already trained to integrate nutrition with whole-person, preventive care.

We urged federal leaders to:
• Demonstrate whole-health integration in care

• Support pilots & evaluation of ND approaches

• Remove barriers limiting patient access to NDs

• Leverage existing partnerships with NIH and existing federal partnerships to accelerate nutrition-centered reforms

This is a pivotal step in positioning naturopathic doctors as leaders in whole-health and preventive care at the highest levels of federal leadership.

Stay tuned as we continue advocating for ND inclusion in shaping the future of medical education and patient care. Read the letter here: https://bit.ly/4mEGuav

About Dr. Dawn

Dr. Dawn Siglain is a compassionate doctor who believes in the body’s innate ability to heal itself when treated with nature and understanding. She is a Naturopathic Doctor and an Acupuncturist having received her Doctoral Degree in Naturopathic Medicine and Masters of Science Degree in Acupuncture with training in Traditional Chinese Medicine at the University of Bridgeport. Combining both western and eastern modalities allows an opportunity to address patients’ needs in their own specific way to address the root cause of what is causing their dis-ease. She holds her license as a Board Certified Naturopathic Doctor in the state of CT and is a member of the New York Association of Naturopathic Physicians. She is a licensed acupuncturist in NY.

Dr. Dawn’s path into wellness started while she was living in San Diego, CA and had the ah-ha moment of truly believing that ‘You Are What You Eat’ which led to her next true understanding of Hippocrates’s famed saying, ‘Let Food Be Thy Medicine & Medicine Be Thy Food’. Upon moving back to the east coast, her interests delved even deeper into optimum health. This led to her certifications as a Health Coach with the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and Personal Trainer with the National Academy of Sports Medicine.

Clinical education exposed Dr. Dawn to a variety of healing modalities. Her interests of expertise are treating mental health, autoimmune conditions, pulmonary and renal disease. She specializes in mind-body, homeopathy, exercise planning, and counseling in diet and lifestyle changes. She preceptored with Dr. Jenna Henderson, ND at her practice, Holistic Kidney, which is kidney focused in the field of naturopathic medicine. In 2015, she received her Second Degree of Reiki under Usui Shiki Ryoho. She was also recognized by the UB College of Naturopathic Medicine as a recipient of the 2015 Bragg Health Institute Nutrition Scholarship. In 2017, she received a scholarship from UB to study with Dr. Andre Saine at The Canadian Academy of Homeopathy in Montreal and completed the course in ‘Essentials of Acute and Chronic Prescribing’. She also studied under Dr. Florence McPherson, ND who is an expert in homeopathy. By addressing the needs of the body and making the proper diet and lifestyle changes with patients, Dr. Dawn is able to guide them back to wellness.

Dr. Dawn now resides in her hometown of Huntington, NY where she can treat patients in her community with a caring heart. Staying active, creating delicious meals from farmers market goods, spending time with her family, and hanging out at the dog park with her sweet chihuahua Chloe are all things Dr. Dawn enjoys. She looks forward to meeting and treating YOU!
