Cornerstone Specialty Hospitals Huntington is a specialty acute care hospital accredited by The Joint Commission (TJC). This hospital is designed as a bridge in the continuum of care and is intended to provide intensive, specialized care for medically complex patients that require a longer treatment and recovery period. Their goal is to treat the immediate and long-term needs of patients with the goal of helping each patient reach the next level of well-being on their path to a full recovery.

Congratulations to our Raffle Winners + Final Heart Walk Countdown!!! ❤️❤️❤️

We are excited to announce the winners of the American Heart Association donation raffles, Michael Starcher & Cristy McClellan. Michael won a cooler filled with BBQ essentials and Cristy won a beautiful spring wreath. All proceeds have gone to the American Heart Association. Thank you to everyone who supported this cause to raise funds for cardiovascular health. ❤️ Let's keep the energy going!! Don't forget to come out this Saturday morning, April 11th at 10:00 AM for the American Heart Walk at Ritter Park in Huntington. Together we are walking toward a healthier future. All participants will receive a Cornerstone Heart Walk shirt. Our ask is to please register prior to the event, so we have enough shirts to give out. We are excited to see everyone there!! After 3 to 4 days of worsening symptoms and a home pulse oximetry test that showed his oxygen saturation in the 60s, Richard, 62, decided it was time to visit the ER. There, he was admitted with progressive shortness of breath, chills, worsening cough and sputum.

Richard’s condition was serious – he was diagnosed with acute respiratory failure with respiratory acidosis along with atrial fibrillation and congestive heart failure, meaning his heart could not pump enough blood and his lungs were unable to effectively oxygenate it. During his stay, Richard had to be intubated and placed on mechanical ventilation multiple times. The complexity of Richard’s condition meant he needed the type of long-term acute care that Cornerstone Specialty Hospitals excel at providing.

When he was admitted to Cornerstone Huntington, Richard was on mechanical ventilation via an endotracheal tube and could not breathe or eat on his own. Under the excellent care of the Cornerstone team, he underwent a tracheostomy and a percutaneous gastro (PEG) feeding tube insertion. During his recovery, Richard received round-the-clock care, including multiple IV drips to keep his blood pressure stable, tube feedings to support his recovery, and close monitoring by the wound care team and respiratory therapist. Little by little, Richard’s condition improved, and he was able to be liberated from the ventilator. He became completely alert and oriented, and his tracheostomy tube and feeding tube were removed.

With the support of his girlfriend and two sons, Richard worked hard and was eventually well enough to return to a normal diet and day-to-day activities. He was discharged to a skilled nursing facility near his home and remains grateful for the care and support he received at Cornerstone.

We would like to congratulate our Employee of the Month for February, 2026, Shannon Jarvis, RN. Shannon joined our team in January. She graduated nursing school at Miami University, Hamilton, OH in 2007. She has 19 years experience and has held positions in Step Down, Ortho, L-TAC, Nsg Home and Inpatient Rehab. Shannon's 4 children are her biggest blessing and her hobbies are macrame', refurbishing furniture and being home with her children. Her favorite quotes are: Be the Sunshine! Don't quit! Never give up! Stay Grateful! Shannon always brings a smile to work for her fellow co-workers and her patients. She is knowledgeable in her nursing role and is always helpful to others including patients and staff. She has picked up extra shifts to help with staffing, taken over assignments without notice in the middle of a shift, assisted with training new employees and never complains. Congratulations, Daniella Sellers, RN, our January Employee of the Month! Daniella joined our team in May of 2025 as Shift Key. She has 10 years of experience and her favorite quote is: "You can do anything for 12 hours." - Nettie Damron. Daniella's hobbies include raising her kids with her high school sweetheart, making her own iced coffee, and making shirts for friends at work. She is a DIY Queen.
