🥳 Celebrating 250 lifechanging procedures! 💚

Congratulations to Dr. Esam Baryun, cardiologist at St. Mary's Regional Heart Institute, for completing his 250th WATCHMAN implant procedure. This significant milestone distinguishes Dr. Baryun as one of West Virginia's leading physicians performing this innovative procedure.

The implant removes the need for patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation, or AFiB, to continue to take blood thinners, which after long-term use increase the risk of internal bleeding, while still preventing blood clots and their risk of stroke.

🚨 Heat stroke is a medical emergency. Call 911 immediately if someone shows signs like red, hot skin with no sweating, a strong pulse, or loss of consciousness.

Marshall Health Network has named Alfredo Morales, MD, MHA, MSML, FACHDM, as its new Director of Virtual Care and Telehealth. In this role, Dr. Morales will lead MHN’s expanding digital health ecosystem overseeing virtual care, telehealth, remote patient monitoring, and emerging digital solutions.

After more than 40 years of dedicated service, Monte Ward, Chief Financial Officer of Marshall Health Network, has announced his retirement effective August 31, 2025.

Monte has been a visionary leader and a steady hand in guiding our health system through decades of growth and transformation. His legacy of loyalty, leadership and impact will be felt for years to come.

Beginning Sept. 1, Kevin Barr will serve as Interim CFO while a national search is conducted for Monte’s permanent successor. Barr brings more than 30 years of experience in healthcare operations and financial leadership. Ward will continue to share his expertise in a consulting role from September 1 through December 31, 2025, helping ensure a smooth transition.

To further support our financial strategy, a new Corporate Controller role has been established. Lisa Postelwait, an accomplished financial executive with more than 20 years of experience, will serve in this position on an interim basis.

St. Mary’s Medical Center announced today Wendy Maynard, DNP, MSN-NA, FNP, RN, CSHA, has been named Interim Vice President of Nursing and Patient Services.

Maynard recently held the role of Director of Quality and Accreditation, Infection Prevention, and Nursing of the Behavioral Health Services. She has worked at SMMC in a variety of roles from a nurse extern, med surg float, ICU, house supervisor, and director. She recently completed the West Virginia Healthcare Association (WVHA) 2025 Leadership Academy and brings 32 years of nursing experience to her new role.

“Wendy brings years of experience and a proven commitment to patient care," said Andy Mullins, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC, CNL, Interim Chief Nursing Officer for Marshall Health Network. "Her leadership and dedication to nursing excellence will help to advance our organization’s mission.”

Marshall Health Network announced today that Justin Turner, Chief Operating Officer of Rivers Health, has accepted the position of Chief Executive Officer at Logan Regional Medical Center, a member of Scion Health.

Turner will return to his hometown in late August.

“On behalf of Marshall Health Network and the Rivers Health Board of Directors, we extend our sincere appreciation to Justin for his dedicated leadership and contributions to Rivers Health,” said Scott Raynes, President and CEO of Marshall Health Network. “Justin guided Rivers Health through important milestones and improvements, and his commitment to serving the community has been evident in all he does. While we will miss his leadership here, we are thrilled for him to have this opportunity to serve his hometown and continue making a positive impact in rural healthcare.”

Members of the Marshall Health Network executive team will provide interim leadership and operational support to ensure continuity of care and services while the search for a permanent Chief Operating Officer is underway.

Marshall Health Network is pleased to announce the promotion of Ken Jackson to vice president of Marshall Health Network Facilities and Support Services.

In this role, Jackson will lead system operations across key MHN support departments, including security, maintenance, construction, clinical engineering, safety, food services and environmental services.
