🚨 Myth-Busting Monday! 🚨

Cindy Barnett, APRN, FNP-BC with Marshall Internal Medicine – Teays Valley is here to clear up some of the most common myths about Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) 💉💡

❌ Myth: CGMs mean no more fingersticks.
✅ Fact: You may still need fingersticks—especially if symptoms don’t match readings or low blood sugar is suspected.

❌ Myth: CGMs give real-time blood sugar.
✅ Fact: CGMs measure interstitial fluid (not blood), so readings can lag by 5–15 minutes.

❌ Myth: CGMs are only for people on insulin.
✅ Fact: CGMs benefit many people—not just insulin users! They track how food, stress, activity, and sleep affect your glucose levels.

❌ Myth: CGMs are too expensive.
✅ Fact: They’re more affordable than ever and are often covered by Medicare, Medicaid, and many commercial plans. Plus, they can help reduce long-term health costs.

👉 Knowledge is power—especially when it comes to managing diabetes.

Mystery chest pain? 🔎🫀 Don’t wait, don’t guess—get checked!

Dr. Carlos Rueda says it best:
💬 “Your heart is the body’s most important muscle. Any anomaly should be addressed quickly to prevent lasting damage.”

The Rapid Access Chest Pain Clinic is for patients recently seen in the ER at Cabell Huntington Hospital or St. Mary's Medical Center within the last 48 hours—evaluated and ruled out for a heart attack but still needing follow-up care.
