Dominik’s Journey

Dominik’s Journey This had been such a hard thing to except as parents. But we have been making things the best we can for our Booty Mans.

Seeing him happy makes things a little bit easier. Our sweet boy is loved by so many and we couldn’t be more blessed.

Just got Doms biopsy results: Dominik is in full remission!!

🙌🏼💙
Dr. said this was Doms healthiest looking scope ever! Everything looks great, even his hernia. There are ZERO eosinophils in both his upper and lower esophagus 🥹😭 I’m so happy I could cry. That boy has gone through it all, strict limited diets, surviving on formula, feeding tubes, countless hospital stays and entirely too many medications.

Now he’s eating literally whatever he wants. He has no restrictions. He gets his shot twice a month and is gaining weight appropriately.

Thank you baby Jesus!

Dominik had a great appointment. He still just a little dude at whole 48 pounds, 12th percentile. But the great news is that he’ll be starting a new medication. This medication will only be twice a month, rather than twice a day every day and AND 🥁🥁 DRUM ROLL 🥁🥁 this will allow us to take away all food restrictions!!!
Got some blood work to do before we start it, given the blood work results are good, within a month Dominik will be eating everything with us!
He is STOKED! He already started a list of foods that he has never had and wants to eat!
He’ll have a scope two months after we start the dupixant to make sure it’s doing what it’s supposed to do. Dr. Dunn said it’s been a miracle for EoE and is so excited to switch Dom over.

Doms follow up phone appointment went well! They are soooo happy with him right now. So we have 6 eosinophils in the lower esophagus, around that hernia. The same place we’ve always had issues with, but it’s a drastic difference from the 34 eosinophils we had down there 10 months ago. And 0 eosinophils in the middle and top. He is in full remission! His vitamin d is low, low enough that they are putting him on a high dose prescription for it. He has to do 200 mgs of that a day for at least three months and then get blood work to see how that is going. His protein is pretty low, she isn’t too concerned about it at the moment but she said we have to get all the protein in him that we can before that’s another medication. Other then that he grew up in height a good 4 inches, so she isn’t concerned about his 2 pound weight gain. He’s proportionate. And thriving!

Talked to Doms doctor today, he is doing absolutely AMAZING. He’s 39.4lbs, 34%. His scope looked fantastic and his biopsy numbers were FATASTIC as well. Lower 34, top 2!! He’s only on one medication and is tube free.
Huge shout out to everyone that has thought, prayed, send good vibes etc. We are SO thankful.

WE ARE BEYOND EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE: AS OF THIS MORNING DOMINIK IS TUBE FREE! Dr. Dunn is tickled pink, this is the best looking scope dom has had yet. The medicine is working, she said he looks incredible inside and out. We’ll know biopsy numbers in a few days, like normal, but physically she’s so happy!

Welllll, Dom has his first ever issue with his tube. An early abscess 🙁 I caught it first thing yesterday morning and got him in within in minutes of him waking up. Since yesterday we’ve had X-rays and ultrasounds and have been put on a strong antibiotic. I was freaking out just a little, as we’ve never had anything wrong with it. But I was reassured by everyone we’ve talked to that it had nothing to do with me or him so I feel a little better.

Apparently this is relatively common, thank Jesus not for us, but is caused when even the smallest of crumb, hair, fuzz, etc gets into the stoma sight.

He goes first thing Monday to check on the progress. If everyone could just pray or keep him in your thoughts. Hoping the antibiotics kick in, in worst case scenario it doesn’t and he has to have this drained 😔

So Dominik had a scope, biopsies and blood work done last week and I was waiting to hear back from the doctor before I updated. The results are in, and are not good, actually they’re really bad. Last year when Dominik had his last scope he was near remission which means that his eosinophil counts were below 15. This scope/biopsy told us that Doms eosinophil counts are again in the hundreds in his lower esophagus and 50s in the upper. His bloodwork has his doctor concerned. He has several vitamin deficiencies, one that she said was dangerously low. He is also dangerously low on protein. He will be starting a steroid again, we had taken him off back in March to see if his body would be able to take care of its self without it and this scope proved it cannot. He hast to start a high dose of vitamin D two times a day and a high dose multivitamin two times a day. He is also being referred to a dietitian nutritionist to see if we can find food that is not only safe for him but also high in what he is lacking. His doctor is concerned since he is already not allowed to have so much that we may not be able to feed him, orally, enough that will keep him healthy. When we spoke during his scope she had goals to remove his tube. She said he looks so good and had high hopes that things were well. I now we don’t know if that’s going to be able to happen. Hard lesson learned, looks can be deceiving. Dom looks so good on the outside. Everybody seriously tells us that when they see him. but his little body is fighting so hard. And my heart breaks. I hate this for him, I hate this for us.

We have a follow up with his doctor next week and I might know a little bit more to be able to update. But a lot of people have asked about Dom. A lot of people that knew about his scope have been wondering. So I just wanted to update a little bit. If everybody could keep him in your thoughts and prayers, juju, whatever you do that would be greatly appreciated. And we will figure this out.

Long time since our last update. Thank you covid. Dominik FINALLY has his next scope scheduled, it’s been a whole year since his last one. We go on the 13th to see how his insides are looking and what our next step is with his life. He has to get a covid test done a week prior 🙄 and then a follow up two weeks after. The last time we spoke to his dr, via FaceTime, we talked about possibly removing his tube if he was eating stable enough and maintaining weight. This boy has been eating like it’s his job and is a whopping 37 lbs. So we shall see!

Wellll Dom was supposed to have his check up today, but with the covid crap it’s obviously impossible, so we had a virtual appoint with Dr. Dunn today instead.

Dom has been doing FANTASTIC! He looks fantastic, his hair is thick and beautiful, his cheeks are full and he’s happy and full of energy now.

Today Dominik weighs in at 35.8 lbs! He’s a beast. Lol. He’ll be four years old in a week and in size 4T clothes. 🙌🏼

His button looks beautiful, we haven’t had any issues with that. He takes four feedings a day through that and snacks throughout the day. We are going to start an appetite enhancer to see if we can get him eating more by mouth. He takes his feeds like a champ still. No complaining or whining or questions.

He will have a scope around September! This is longest he’s gone without one, it’ll be nearly a year in between. But with all this virus stuff going on it’s being pushed back A LOT. We are hoping this one will be the best one yet though.

Other then that we are just taking this quarantine day by day and focusing on staying healthy.
Happy to have a good update 💙
