✨ Celebrating Our 1st Quarter “Good Saves” Honorees! ✨

Our “Good Saves” initiative highlights the power of peer-to-peer recognition and celebrates exceptional patient care, innovation, and teamwork across our program.

Congratulations to today’s two honorees, Drs. Edah (left) and Anderson (right) nominated by their attendings and chief residents in the Lifesaving category and selected by the Education Subcommittee for this quarter. 👏 Their dedication and clinical excellence represent the very best of our team.

The “Good Saves” initiative allows team members to formally recognize colleagues for outstanding care in areas such as:

• Critical Care
• Lifesaving and Limb-Saving Interventions
• Trauma and End-of-Life Care
• Multidisciplinary Management

🗓 Award consideration deadlines: April 1, July 1, October 1, and January 1 via New Innovations.

We look forward to seeing how Good Saves continues to foster collaboration, creativity, and excellence in patient care across our program.

👏 Congratulations again to our honorees!

Happy Doctor’s Day 2026! 🩺

Today we celebrate the incredible surgeons who make our program so special—our dedicated attendings! Their commitment to excellence, compassion for patients, and passion for teaching and mentoring our residents inspire us every single day.

Last month, we had the opportunity to celebrate our residents with similar gifts on Thank a Resident Day. So, last week during didactics, we were grateful to celebrate Doctor’s Day with our attendings—sharing t-shirts, cards, and cookies as a small token of appreciation for their leadership, guidance, and unwavering support of our trainees.

While these gestures are simple, our gratitude is immense. We appreciate all they do for our patients, our learners, and each other. 💚

Match Day joy! 🎉 Today we celebrate welcoming our new interns to the Marshall University General Surgery Residency.

We are especially proud that two of our own students from Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine matched into our program. Watching them grow from medical students into surgical residents—and knowing they chose to stay and train here—is incredibly meaningful.

Congratulations to our entire Match class! 🎉

🌟Thank a Resident Day️ 2026! 🌟

We had the privilege of celebrating our residents this week. We shared a small token of appreciation—custom Marshall General Surgery Residency: “The ❤️ of the OR” t-shirts and WV-themed water bottles—but the true highlight was serving the community together.

As part of our wellness and community outreach initiatives, our residents volunteered alongside the incredible staff at Facing Hunger Foodbank, packing 11,492 meals for our food-insecure neighbors.

We believe wellness extends beyond the walls of the OR. Service, community engagement, and caring for others are core to who we are—and our residents continue to lead by example, serving with purpose, compassion, and professionalism in the OR and beyond. Today and every day, we are so grateful that they are ours. 💚🩺

Robotics Boot Camp 🌟

Drs. Corsello and Herrera graciously hosted a Robotics Boot Camp on Saturday for our PGY1 and PGY2 residents. The morning included an Introduction to Robotics followed by hands-on stations in the OR focused on driving and docking, procedures and EGD scope/tower setup, and managing robotic emergencies.

Residents also had the opportunity to review EGD scope & tower setup and earn privileges—an important milestone for PGY1s as they work toward promotion to PGY2.

We’re grateful to our faculty, OR staff, and our da Vinci partners for investing in resident education and advancing robotic training in our program. 🩺💚

In recognition of Black History Month, we celebrate the legacy and lasting impact of Black surgeons and physicians who have shaped the field of surgery and continue to advance patient care, education, and innovation. We are proud of our residents whose diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and dedication strengthen our program and enhance the care we provide to our community. We remain committed to fostering an inclusive learning environment where excellence, equity, and respect guide all that we do, and we are grateful for the diversity that enriches our training program and strengthens our mission as educators and clinicians. 🖤

✨ Women in Surgery - Galentine’s Gathering ✨

Our Marshall Women in Surgery chapter sponsors and residents gathered to celebrate Women Physicians Day through shared learning, mentorship, and connection.

We were grateful to hear from Dr. Diane Krutlzer-Berry, one of our chapter sponsors, who delivered a thoughtful and empowering presentation on “Women Physicians & Navigating Bias.” Her insights sparked meaningful conversation and reflection among our women surgeons and residents.

The Program was pleased to offer lunch and gift attendees a self-care package from Brookstone Soaps - including body butter and lip balm - a local company we’re proud to support.

Grateful for this strong community of women who continue to support one another, advocate for equity, and lead with excellence in surgery. ❤️
