CHICAGO—Prevent Blindness, a nonprofit eye health organization, has designated May as its third annual Inherited Retinal Disease (IRD) and Genetic Testing Month. Prevent Blindness offers a variety of free, expert-approved resources on IRDs, including webpages, patient and expert videos, a new podcast episode, social media graphics, and fact sheets in English and Spanish, the organization noted. CHICAGO—Prevent Blindness, a nonprofit eye health organization, has announced it is kicking off the first webinar in its Focus on Eye Health Webinar Series on May 19, 2026. This year’s theme, “Powering Partnerships to Advance Eye Health,” will weave through all four webinars in the series during the year and will include expert- and patient-led presentations, on-demand educational content, resources and opportunities for collaboration. The 2026 Focus on Eye Health Webinar Series is designed for individuals living with eye disease, care partners, patient advocacy organizations; foundations; educators; health professionals; policymakers; employers; and community health groups, Prevent Blindness said in the announcement.

POMONA, Calif.—K.C. Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a manufacturer and private-label supplier of over-the-counter (OTC) eyecare products in North America, initiated a nationwide voluntary recall for more than 3 million bottles of eye drop products citing “lack of assurance of sterility,” according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The FDA categorizes the recall as Class II, which is for products that may cause “temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences,” where the probability of serious injury is remote. The recall of 3,111,072 bottles from eight product lines began on March 3, 2026, and was classified by the FDA on March 31.

NORWICH, Vt. and SYDNEY, Australia—Cure Blindness Project and The Fred Hollows Foundation have announced a landmark strategic partnership that aims to help end avoidable blindness in Rwanda and Laos by 2035, and address the cataract backlog in at least three other countries. Both organizations are global nonprofits dedicated to eradicating preventable and treatable blindness in underserved communities.
