On Día de los Reyes (Jan 6th), I published a post about the beautiful plans that were in place to celebrate the holiday.
Well, that did not happen. Life had other plans.
My son was not feeling well when he came home from school and practice. The culprit? Expired yogurt! An accidental misreading of the “best by” date and an oversight on my part in clearing out the expired food led to great discomfort for him.
Rosca de Reyes was not tried until the following day: my husband found the baby, or rather the scary, bright white, plastic toddler, in his slice of cake. My son had opened his gifts Tuesday morning but my husband’s and my gifts were waiting patiently by the fireplace until several moments ago. We planned on resuming the festivities this past weekend but life threw in additional surprises that prompted further delay in playing the much anticipated "unwrapping" game.
Sometimes the best laid plans don’t unfold like we would like. And sometimes life requires a decision as to how we will respond. We can choose to become upset and frustrated. We can choose to remain in that space and wrapped in energy that may not be entirely helpful. Or, we can choose to PIVOT. Although plans may not always unfold as we envision them, we still have the opportunity to create the memories. Yes, things may look slightly different, or entirely so. However, the underlying sentiment can remain the same. The choice is ours to make - pivot or not.
