Do Airplanes Make Allergies Worse?
Yes, they can! Dry cabin air, recycled particles, and close contact with other passengers can aggravate allergy symptoms, especially in kids.

Here are a few easy tips for traveling with allergies this summer:
Use a saline nasal spray before and after your flight to moisten your nasal passages.
Pack antihistamines or other allergy meds in your carry-on if symptoms flare mid-flight.
Wipe down tray tables and armrests to reduce dust and allergen exposure.
Stay hydrated. Drink water frequently to combat dry air.

If you have pollen allergies, you might experience itchy mouth, throat irritation, or swelling after eating certain raw fruits or vegetables. This could be due to oral allergy syndrome (OAS), where your immune system mistakes proteins in fresh produce for pollen allergens.
Cross-reactivity with seasonal pollens like birch, grass, or ragweed can trigger these symptoms during the summer. It’s different from a traditional food allergy, which can cause more severe or systemic reactions and is triggered by different immune pathways.
