Miracle Moments: Meet the Gowers — grateful parents of a true NICU miracle ✨

Their son’s incredible journey from a 13-ounce newborn born at just 24 weeks and 2 days to a walking toddler is a story of love, care and community support.

Born weighing only 13 ounces, baby Ellis spent 139 days in the Huntsville Hospital for Women & Children Neonatal ICU. Now, almost 2 years old, he’s thriving and reaching amazing milestones — including walking!

“We remember the incredible support we received from the NICU staff during both the highs and lows of an overwhelming journey to bring our son home,” his mom Chaney shared. “We are thankful and proud to be a part of an amazingly generous community who sees the need to provide resources for the most vulnerable patient population.”

To the donors who help make this care possible, the Gowers say:
“Thank you. Through your generous donations, you have given our baby a chance at life and my husband and I the opportunity of having the family we dreamed of. We are forever grateful for the impact your generosity has had on our lives and others in the NICU community.”

🎉 Want to help more NICU families like the Gowers? There are still a few tickets left for tonight's 20th annual Miracle Bash! Grab your friends and enjoy live music, food, fun and giving — all to support our tiniest patients. Can't make it in-person? Rocket City Marathon has named Huntsville Hospital Foundation as the first-ever philanthropic partner in its 49-year history — and we are incredibly grateful!

Thanks to decades of community support, Rocket City Marathon is now in a position to give back — and they’ve chosen to invest in local children and families right here in North Alabama. Proceeds from the 2025 Race Weekend (Dec. 12–14) will help fund a therapy playground for pediatric patients at Huntsville Hospital for Women & Children.

This special outdoor space will offer healing through play for children who visit our Pediatric Therapy and Audiology Department each week. While it’s the first project supported by this new partnership, it’s not the only one. Future proceeds from Rocket City Marathon will help fund additional priority needs for pediatric patients and families.

What started as a race is now becoming a legacy of healing. Thank you to the Huntsville Track Club and the Rocket City Marathon community for making every mile meaningful for local kids!

Miracle Moments: A Strong Start for a Full-Term Fighter 💪
Born at 40 weeks and weighing more than 8 lbs, sweet Amelia’s NICU journey came as a surprise.

“We were blessed to have had a healthy pregnancy and overall routine and uncomplicated labor and delivery. Unfortunately, Amelia had trouble transitioning after delivery and could not breathe well on her own.”

She was placed on a ventilator for the first 48 hours of life — diagnosed with persistent pulmonary hypertension.

“It was unexpected to see our full-term, healthy birth weight baby girl dependent on a machine.”

Thanks to the expert NICU team and donor-funded equipment, her condition improved quickly. Within days, she was breathing on her own — and her parents were finally able to hold her.

“We are forever grateful that the Huntsville Hospital NICU had the best physicians, nurses, and equipment ready to provide care to our daughter when she needed it most.”

Today, Amelia’s a thriving 3-year-old.

“Though our NICU stay was relatively brief in the end, the care she received was crucial in allowing her to be the thriving 3-year-old she is today! Thank you for your generosity. Your contributions directly contribute to saving lives.”

Join us in celebrating miracle stories like this one at Miracle Bash, happening this Friday, July 25, at Stovehouse! Enjoy live music, a silent auction, and great food — all while helping raise funds for lifesaving NICU equipment.

We're excited to share that Huntsville Hospital is one of only five hospitals in Alabama to receive a safety grant from The Healthcare Workers’ Compensation Fund (HWCF), thanks to a proposal submitted by HHF!

The grant will bring our first motorized bariatric stretcher to the HH Main PACU—making patient transfers easier and reducing strain on staff.

Special thanks to Lisa Rawlings with Inspirien, who recently toured the full post-op-to-room route to see how this upgrade will help both employees and patients. It’s a long, uphill journey—and now, a safer one!

Safe patient handling is a top priority. We’re grateful to HWCF for investing in the safety of our caregivers—and the well-being of every patient we serve.

💗 Big things start small …
Born at just 1 lb. 2.5 oz., baby Maisy spent 145 days in our Neonatal ICU — during the height of COVID protocols. Only one parent could visit at a time, and families couldn’t lean on loved ones in person.

Her mom remembers: “We were in the NICU during 2020, so we were essentially on our own. We could not have family visit; even my husband and I had to visit her bedside in shifts … I remember sitting in a rocking chair, still as a statue, with my tiny miracle on my chest.”

“Even with their smiles covered by masks, I could see the joy on those faces any time Maisy achieved a milestone or overcame an obstacle. That’s what I remember most: the community I found in the company of strangers.”

Maisy turns five next month. And the equipment that helped save her life? All made possible by generous people like you.

“It’s truly amazing … to look at every oscillator, isolette, and pump and know that someone, somewhere valued those babies as much as their own families. Big things start SMALL, and if you ever doubt that, just look at these NICU miracles.”

Miracle Bash is just one week away!
Every ticket funds lifesaving NICU equipment through the Melissa George Neonatal Memorial Fund.

In 2021, St. Mark's Lutheran HSV reached out with a heartfelt mission: “to provide comfort and support to the Huntsville Hospital team that supports us in our time of need.” 💛

Since then, their Hospital Hospitality Team has delivered homemade baked goods each month to departments across the hospital. These aren’t just treats—they’re reminders that our employees are seen and appreciated by the community they serve.

Recently, our Oncology Unit received this thoughtful gesture, along with handwritten notes of encouragement. In a field where the emotional toll can be heavy, moments like these truly help lift spirits for our hardworking staff.

We’re deeply grateful to St. Mark’s for four years of generosity that have touched thousands of hospital employees—one batch of cookies at a time!

Big news: Our 2026 Huntsville Classic co-chairs are in!

We’re thrilled to announce that Ginger Harper, senior vice president at First Horizon Bank, and Lynn Troy, president of Troy 7, Inc., will co-chair next year’s Huntsville Classic — one of North Alabama’s biggest nights for a cause.

Ginger and Lynn are both dynamic leaders with deep community roots and a strong commitment to giving back. Together, they’ll help raise critical funds for the public hospitals our families and neighbors depend on. While the artist and event date will be announced soon, the momentum is already building — and with them leading the charge, it’s going to be something special. 💚

Miracle Moments: Say Hi to the Iveys! 👋

When baby Ty was born at 36 weeks, he needed the specialized care of our Huntsville Hospital for Women & Children Neonatal ICU — and for four emotional days, his family leaned on the expertise and compassion of the highly trained team surrounding him.

“What I remember most is how incredibly thoughtful and thorough the nurses are,” his mom shared. “It seemed like anything my baby or myself needed, the NICU staff responded to immediately.”

As an anesthesiologist at Huntsville Hospital, Jessica already knew how critical the right tools and technology are — but as a NICU mom, that truth became deeply personal.

“You can have all the knowledge in the world, but without the right equipment, you can’t help anyone,” she said. “I’m honored to be a part of the community supporting the NICU.”

Ty just turned one, and his family is filled with gratitude for that milestone and every moment to come.

“From the bottom of our hearts, thank you,” Jessica said. “It is the toughest thing in the world to leave your baby in someone else’s care as a newborn. Knowing that he was getting top-notch care in a NICU that is well supported really eased the stress of having to be separated from him.”

✨ Miracle Bash is in TWO WEEKS! Your support helps fund the equipment, technology and care that babies like Ty depend on.

👋 Meet Mark – his monthly gifts help bring joy and healing to patients every day.

Mark first got involved through our Development Council young professionals group, and quickly saw how charitable giving fuels programs that transform patient care.

“A number of programs, like Canines for Coping and Arts in Medicine, would not exist without the Foundation, yet they are so impactful to patients at the hospital and the community.”

His favorite? Canines for Coping.

“It is my favorite program as it brings a smile to so many patients and staff members. Seeing the sheer joy it brings to everyone at the hospital is incredibly heartwarming.”

Now he gives every month to keep that impact going — and says it couldn’t be easier.

“For the equivalent of a coffee, lunch, or nice dinner out it makes such a large impact to the foundation, and it honestly goes unnoticed in my monthly budget.”

Join Mark in making Huntsville a happier and healthier community — one month at a time.
