I'm an herbalist with 35 years of experience who helps budding herbalists dig deeper into the healing power of plants.
At my herb farm, I offer hands-on classes, workshops and mentorship that empower families to grow and use medicinal plants. Our purpose is to educate and prepare you to create herbal and other natural remedies to care for your family and friends. We believe that knowing how to gather, prepare, and process herbs are empowering. We all depend too much on the local drug store and it's time to be responsible for our bodies and our health. We hope you learn a lot in these pages and that you will return often.

Every spring, I watch the same thing happen…
Someone gets excited, buys a handful of beautiful herb seed packets, plants them with love…
…and then nothing comes up.
Or worse, everything sprouts, then quietly fades away.
It’s not because you don’t have a green thumb.
It’s because no one told you this one simple thing about how herb seeds actually behave.
I made this mistake myself years ago and once I fixed it, everything changed.
Now my herb beds practically take care of themselves.
If you're planting this season, pause before you put anything in the soil.
This one shift will save you weeks of frustration 🌱

Something I hear all the time from people who want to grow medicinal herbs:
"I don't know where to start."
I get it. There's so much information out there — and most of it assumes you already know the basics. It can feel overwhelming before you've even planted a single seed.
That's exactly why I created my Growing Your Own Medicinal Plants Masterclass.
It's a 90-minute online class where I walk you through the real foundations of growing a medicinal herb garden — the things I wish someone had shown me at the beginning.
We cover:
🌿 How and when to grow and harvest herbs so they're at their most potent
🌱 Seed starting — including stratification and proper storage
🪱 The soil mix I use on my own farm
🌿 Why botanical names matter (and how they save you from costly mistakes)
When you join you also get five digital guides I made to go alongside the lessons:
📄 Why Grow Your Own Medicinal Herbs
📄 How to Choose the Right Herbs for Your Family
📄 Seed Starting Guide for Medicinal Herbs
📄 50 Common Medicinal Herbs
📄 Soil Recipes for Growing Medicinal Herbs
Everything is included for $69. The replay is yours to keep — watch it as many times as you need.
This is for beginners. This is for homesteaders. This is for anyone who's wanted to fill their own jars and just needed someone to show them how.
If you’ve been wanting to grow your own medicinal herbs, this is your place to start 🌱
I put together a step-by-step masterclass to help you grow, harvest, and actually use herbs with confidence, whether you have a garden or just a small space.
And to make it simple, I’ve included downloadable guides you can keep and use as you learn:
Have you ever wanted to grow your own medicinal herbs but weren’t sure where to start? 🌿
Growing your own herbs is one of the most empowering things you can do as an herbalist. When you grow your own plants, you know exactly how they were grown, when they were harvested, and the quality of the medicine you’re making.
In my new masterclass, I’ll walk you through the basics of growing medicinal plants with confidence.
In this class we’ll talk about:
• Growing and harvesting medicinal herbs
• Starting herbs from seed
• Germination and stratification
• Soil for healthy medicinal plants
• Why botanical names matter when working with herbs
If you’ve been wanting to start your own medicinal herb garden, this class will help you begin.

I went looking for mullein… and found more than just a plant.
There’s something powerful about spotting that tall, soft-leafed beauty in the wild and knowing it’s been used for generations for lungs, coughs, and respiratory support.
I’m not just harvesting it, I’m intentionally growing it.
Because when you learn to identify, transplant, and cultivate medicinal plants like mullein, you stop depending on the store… and start building your own backyard apothecary.
Have you ever grown mullein in your herb garden? Or is this your first season thinking about it?
Let’s talk about it below. 🌿👇

Ashwagandha has become a go-to for so many people lately, but there’s a big difference between just following a trend and actually knowing if an herb fits your body’s needs.
But should you take it in the morning? At night? Is it even right for you?
As a natural herbalist, I always remind my community:
✨ Just because an herb is popular doesn’t mean it’s one-size-fits-all.
Herbs are powerful allies when used intentionally.

Ashwagandha isn’t just for warm climates 🌿
You can grow it as an annual even if you don’t live somewhere tropical.
In this post, I share exactly how I grow Ashwagandha in one season, from planting to harvest plus what actually works (and what doesn’t).
If you’ve been curious about growing your own medicinal herbs, this is a great place to start 💚

Not all herbal teas are created equal.
A good herbal tea isn’t about finding the strongest herb or the trendiest blend,
it’s about quality, simplicity, and choosing what truly supports your body.
Herbs work best when they’re taken consistently, prepared thoughtfully,
and chosen with care.
If you’re interested in learning herbs in a grounded, practical way,
I share more through my writing.😉 https://connieherbel.substack.com/

There’s something that happens when you grow a plant with your own hands.
You notice how it responds to cold, heat, neglect, and care.
And somewhere in that watching… you change too.
This slower season always pulls me inward.
The greenhouse gets quieter.
The work slows just enough that I can hear my own thoughts again.
Growing medicinal plants teaches patience.
It teaches observation.
And it gently reconnects you, to your body, the land, and something deeper.
If you’ve been feeling disconnected lately, this might be your invitation to begin again. One plant at a time 🌱
✨ Stay close. I’ll be sharing more about growing medicinal plants in the coming weeks.

Twenty-six years ago when my babies were small, I felt myself caught up in the same whirlwind as many other young mothers such as myself - the miracle of antibiotics! We would bring our fussy, feverish kids to the pediatrition, get a prescription for this liquid marvel and in two or three days they were running around like nothing ever happened. Pediatritions were always happy to oblige our demands for this miracle drug and in return we turned over our God-given instincts about how to care for our children to his capable hands. We were willing to give our child anything and everything they were prescribed.
Then I met AgathaThrash, MD. I went to her lectures. She was saying something real different. She was a pioneer in her field of using natural as well as conventional medicines and author of several books on using herbs and natural remedies . I followed her everywhere, wherever she was lecturing, and sat absorbing it all. In addition, I read every other plant and herb book I could find. I followed old-timers and botanists around the meadows and woods to learn what they knew about identifying plants as well as the benefits of plants. I was hooked!
I sought the pediatritions for a diagnosis, then often threw away the prescriptions when I got home. My husband, a registered nurse, was quite puzzled by this. “Why go to the doctor if you’re not going to do what he says?”, he would ask me. Going contrary to my kids’ doctors was very scary. But I believed, and still do, in their diagnoses and how important it is to go to them for that. Then you know what you are dealing with and can lay out a plan for which direction to go. I’ve learned the value of listening to my intuition and using herbs, natural remedies, healthy diet, and medical care as a part of the healing process. They all work together and each can be a great blessing.
My husband was supportive, but skeptical. His medical training contradicted some of my new ways of doing things. But one day he came home from work with a bad cold. I was excited! He willingly ingested all the teas, tinctures, and juices I brought him over the next day. On day two he kissed me goodbye as he went back to work, “Hon, you cured me”, were his words I’ve never forgotten. After that he was open minded and ready to try it all. In time he was sharing with others and asking me if I had my teas whenever I started to get sick.
Some friends, family, and church members remained skeptical. I was so excited about results I was seeing that I wanted to share with everyone. I homeschooled, allowed my kids few vaccinations, and always had plants drying around my house. It was a different world, and I was too different for most people. Finally, I stopped sharing. In time, this way of life became popular and I’ve watched some of these same skeptical people become almost fanatical about it. Even sharing with me things I’ve been doing for years. I share this with you to encourage you to just do what you feel is best for your family. Others may not understand and they may feel you are making a mistake. Follow your intuition. Don’t let others discourage you, as I once did.
I’m so glad you stopped by my page. I hope you will learn a lot and find encouragement here.
