If you are having a mental health crisis, contact Crisis Hotline @ 800-784-2433, go to your nearest emergency room or call 911. The SHSU Counseling Center provides individual, couples, and group therapy to students who are currently enrolled. Our mission is to provide service within the university environment that contributes to the academic success, personal growth, and positive social contribution of Sam Houston State University students. We embrace a student-oriented philosophy that is respectful of diversity and is committed to the development of the student as a whole person. Please note that this page is solely for outreach purposes and for sharing information related to mental health and student wellness. If you are interested in pursuing services at the Counseling Center please contact our office at 936.294.1720 to schedule an initial intake appointment. If you are in a state of crisis, we offer walk-in appointments during our normal hours of operation. In case of an after-hours crisis, you can contact University Police at 936.294.1794 for assistance and they can connect you with an on-call clinician. If you are in a state of emergency or are in imminent danger, please call 911 or head to your nearest emergency room.
