AHWC, Inc., a Christian nonprofit mission-minded health institution, was founded in NW Arkansas in 2015 to offer a solution to a growing area and national problem. Approximately 1 out of every 3 people in Arkansas are overweight or obese, and many residents struggle with obesity-related chronic degenerative diseases including diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, arthritis, and obesity-related cancer. The GOOD NEWS is that these diseases are preventable and often reversible with lifestyle modifications, consisting primarily of a change in diet, weight loss, and exercise.
While most physicians are aware of these facts, lifestyle modification is one of the most time-consuming topics to discuss with patients, and is therefore often overlooked or underemphasized, even though this is probably THE MOST IMPORTANT discussion for patients to have with their medical providers in order for them to gain control of their illness and prevent disease progression and complications. A SOLUTION to this problem includes lifestyle educators who can take the time and who have the training to guide patients through lifestyle changes that will impact their disease, while the patient's primary care physician or specialist continues to lead out in the overall management of their patient. This is the reason Abundant Health Wellness Center, Inc. was founded. Run primarily by volunteer medical specialists, this organization offers supplemental, medically-supervised outpatient health education programs for patients suffering with chronic degenerative diseases through the following modalities, available in person or, in some cases, via the phone or internet:
1. Dietary instruction and personalized meal-planning by a registered dietician.
