Why are patients transferred out of Huntsville Memorial Hospital? ๐Ÿค”

Dr. Stephen Antwi, Chief of Staff, explains that it's often due to limited critical care and subspecialty beds. This isn't unique to Huntsville; many community hospitals face the same challenge.

However, a new, bigger, and more advanced hospital would allow us to:
- Keep more patients in Huntsville
- Attract subspecialty physicians
- Provide the latest, quality care our community deserves

The goal is to always keep people here in Huntsville, and a new hospital is a key step toward achieving that.

October, 2025
HUNTSVILLE โ€“ Big changes will be coming to the intersection of IH 45 and FM 1374/Montgomery Road in Huntsville as crews prepare to demolish the existing bridge and build a brand-new one. To keep traffic flowing during construction, a temporary roundabout-style traffic pattern will be introduced using the newly built U-turn bridges.

The main bridge that crosses IH 45 at FM 1374 will be removed and replaced. While this work is underway, drivers will use a roundabout-style configuration (see map below) to move through the intersection. This setup will rely on the recently completed U-turn bridges to keep traffic moving safely and efficiently. Signage will be in place to guide drivers through the intersection.

Key Dates to Know:
Friday, October 17, to Sunday, October 19, 2025 โ€“ Bridge Demolition Weekend
Full closure of IH 45 main lanes from 8 p.m. Friday to 10 p.m. Sunday
IH 45 Northbound traffic will exit at Exit 114 and re-enter north of Smither Drive
IH 45 Southbound traffic will exit at Exit 115 and re-enter south of FM 1374

Construction of the new bridge is expected to be completed by late January 2026. Once open, traffic will return to a more conventional flow across IH 45.

TxDOT appreciates everyoneโ€™s patience and cooperation as we work to improve infrastructure and safety in our community. Please drive carefully and follow posted signs during this transition.

Building a new hospital isn't just about a new buildingโ€”it's about the future of healthcare in Huntsville. As Dr. Dimitrios Mantzoros explains, a modern facility is essential for attracting top-tier physicians to our community. Dr Mantzoros has been in the area for nearly 30 years and has seen what upgrades in the past has done to attract top physicians to our area.

A new hospital will provide the updated resources and space doctors need to practice, directly addressing current shortages in ICU and emergency room beds. Dr. Mantzoros believes that by investing in our hospital, we will see an influx of new physicians ready to take our community's healthcare to the next level.

Let's build a brighter future for Huntsville's health!
