💧 Kerr County Flood Relief — Texans Helping Texans 💙

Last week, Kerr County might’ve felt like a distant neighbor. But after the devastating flash floods this past Friday, it feels heartbreakingly close to home. Many of us have family and friends in the area or have seen the emotional images on the news.

Now is our chance to help. ❤️

Here's how HMH is lending a hand and how you can support relief efforts:
🔹 Monetary Donations
The Kerr County Flood Relief Fund is accepting donations to support emergency services and aid organizations directly on the ground.
https://cftexashillcountry.fcsuite.com/erp/donate/create/fund?funit_id=4201

🔹 Current Needs: Volunteer Opportunities
Samaritan’s Purse is organizing volunteer clean-up and rebuilding crews in Kerr County. No experience needed — just willing hands and hearts.
🛏️ They offer lodging and meals for those volunteering 3+ days.
📆 We are organizing an HMH group later this month.

🔹Future Needs
We are collecting cold weather items (blankets, jackets, quilts, etc.) now through September for later distribution, once space is available. We’re partnering with Walker County volunteers to store these items until they’re needed. A collection box is in the main lobby of the hospital.

Whether you're from here, live here now, or are just passing through — we’re neighbors. And neighbors show up.

Please join us in congratulating Leah Fiedler, our 2025 Wilford Award winner for Compassion & Community Service! This award, created by CHC, honors Dan Wilford, a true role model and visionary.
The Wilford Award recognizes individuals who demonstrate:
• Remarkable concern for the welfare and happiness of patients
• Significant contributions to improving community health and welfare
• Exceptional commitment to community service beyond daily duties
• Extraordinary acts of kindness and positive impact on others
Leah has been a vital part of the HMH ICU team for nearly two years, starting on nights before her promotion to day shift Charge. Before her nursing career, Leah served as a Nuclear Electronics Technician in the US Navy for 8 years. After graduating from Old Dominion University in 2014, she continued her full-time active duty in the Navy for four years as an ICU Nurse at Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth, Virginia. During this time, Leah deployed to South America aboard the USNS Comfort, providing mobile medical services and humanitarian relief.
Here’s what her colleagues shared about Leah:
“She consistently goes above and beyond in her role, significantly enhancing the environment at HMH for both patients and colleagues. Whenever I've faced challenges, Leah has readily stepped in to ensure I have the support needed to accomplish my tasks. Her meticulous attention to detail and active involvement in various committees and activities demonstrate her commitment to expanding her knowledge of best practices and expectations at HMH. Leah truly is an invaluable asset to our hospital!”
“Leah is a wonderful nurse to work alongside in patient care. She is always willing and ready to help a fellow nurse with patient care. In fact, sometimes you wouldn’t even have to ask for help. She would just appear at the door ready to help with whatever the task may be. This work ethic only grew and improved as she transitioned to Charge. She ensures that everyone has help, breaks, and assistance with anything needed for coworkers or patient’s need. She always puts patient care concerns first.”
Thank you, and congratulations, Leah! We are so thankful to have you at HMH.

UPDATE: 1:30pm - Phones have been restored at this time. Thank you for your patience during the outage

We are currently experiencing an outage with our phone system and will be unreachable by regular numbers until a resolution is completed. This affects the main hospital as well as the clinics (HMH Center for Rehab and Sports Medicine, Primary Care Clinic, Women’s Health Clinic/OBGYN, Ortho Clinic, and the Women’s Imaging Center).

Please be patient with us as we work through bringing the services back online.

Our first Walk with a Doc event was a big success!

We had a great turnout with more than 10 walkers—patients, families, and friends from the community.
We planned for 2 laps (1 mile), but everyone had so much energy we walked 4 laps!

We also had a great conversation about how physical inactivity affects heart health and simple ways to stay active.

We’ll be back again next month on July 5th, and we’d love to see even more of you there.
Come walk with us, stay healthy, and connect with your local care team!
