Sarah E. Mulder, PsyD

Sarah E. Mulder, PsyD Licensed Clinical Psychologist in downtown Huntsville, AL. Hello! I currently have openings for new clients. Together, we can make it happen!

My name is Dr. Sarah Mulder and I'm a licensed clinical psychologist in private practice in downtown Huntsville. My office is conveniently located at Longwood Psychological Center, right by Huntsville Hospital. If you are struggling with stress, life changes, depression, anxiety, trauma, gender/s*xual identity concerns, or other issues, consider giving me a call to discuss how therapy can help. I

work with both individuals and couples, from adolescence through adulthood. I strive to create a warm, non-judgmental space of mutual respect in which we can talk about any (and all) of your concerns with confidentiality. Additionally, I specialize in psychological assessment. If you are concerned about ADHD, learning or intellectual problems, personality issues, or mood symptoms, for yourself or a loved one, testing can help. I always provide thorough, in-person feedback with tailored recommendations to help you capitalize on strengths and adapt to challenges. I provide LGBTQ affirmative services, and also offer evaluations for those seeking hormone replacement therapy and/or gender confirmation surgeries. I can provide letters of recommendation in support of transition-related care as appropriate. I embrace diversity, and welcome individuals from all walks of life. I think everyone has the right to live a happier life, and firmly believe in people's abilities to change for the better. Please feel free to reach me via:

Today is the National Trans Day of Remembrance, which is annually marked on 11/20. The NTDOR honors those who lost their lives to senseless violence, simply because of how they identify.

2020 is already one of the deadliest years on record, surpassing totals for the last several years. Thus far, there have been 34 known deaths of trans individuals in the US and its territories. The majority of these are trans people of color, who, despite making up about 16% of the trans population, comprise nearly 70% of deaths. Trans women of color and s*x workers are particularly vulnerable to senseless violence.

The reality is that the actual number of murders is much higher, as many individuals are not out, are misgendered, or suffer erasure at the hands of those who record their deaths.

As Sarah McBride, our nation's first transgender state senator, noted, "The crisis of violence against the trans community is not just for trans people to solve. It's on all of us, as Americans, to ensure marginalized folks in our community are safe, and it's on every American to work towards solutions so we are all free to live without fear of being persecuted or attacked for our identity."

Pronouns matter! Mine are she/her/hers, what are yours?

If in doubt, just ask! I've been making a concerted effort recently to use more gender neutral language when speaking and although it's taken some practice, it's getting easier! Anyone else down for the challenge?

This is a great infographic to review that discusses the difference between gender-specific pronouns and gender-neutral pronouns. It is so important to empower others by using their preferred pronouns. It isn't rude to ask someone what their pronouns are. Work it into the beginning of a conversation and if you ever slip up just apologize and correct yourself.
