January is Cervical Health Awareness Month - a movement dedicated to preventing, detecting, and treating Cervical Cancer. 🩡

The National Cancer Institute reports that over 18,000 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer each year. Fortunately, it is highly treatable if caught early, making regular screening for it imperative for your health.

It's World Breast Pumping Day - the perfect chance to celebrate the benefits and acknowledge the challenges of breastfeeding. 🩡

🀱🏻 It's estimated that breastfeeding takes around 1,800 hours a year - close to the equivalent of a full-time job with two weeks vacation!
🀱🏼 Breast milk provides key nutrients and antibodies that can help reduce the risk for infections, SIDS, obesity, and asthma.
🀱🏽 Mothers can benefit from breastfeeding as well, with it aiding in postpartum recovery and reducing the risks of breast and ovarian cancers, Type 2 diabetes, and high blood pressure.
🀱🏾 The body uses between 500 - 700 calories to produce breastmilk. The average 5k run burns 300 - 450 calories by comparison.
🀱🏿 Producing breastmilk takes about 25% of the body's energy. The brain uses only 20% to function.

Be sure to share with a friend to celebrate all their hard work! 🩡

We heard we're posting pictures from 2016, and we have a couple for you! Back in 2016, I wasn't a nurse yet; I was finishing up my degree in Earth Systems Science, working with NASA, and pregnant with my first baby! Throughout my career, I've worn many hats, but becoming a parent illuminated my true calling in supporting new families. My greatest joy comes from educating parents on postpartum care and newborn well-being. 🩡

We are so excited for the year ahead here at NANNY! Yesterday we had the opportunity to have a team meeting and left with so much excitement for the families we will be able to care for and impact in 2026. 🩡

The afternoon consisted of new headshots (thanks we can't wait to see them), games like baby swaddles races, and a focused look at what we do and why we do it. It's a privilege to be able to walk alongside our families during such a special season and we love what we do. πŸ₯°

Today, we celebrate the lasting legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the impact his life continues to have on our society. As parents, the greatest way to honor Dr. King is to teach our children to love others as themselves. 🩡

January is Birth Defect Prevention Month, a month dedicated to raising awareness, supporting impacted families, and encouraging healthy choices during pregnancy. While not every birth defect can be prevented, following these five recommendations can reduce risks of developing a birth defect.

🩡 Folic acid plays a crucial role in cell growth, forming DNA, and brain health and function. Taking a prenatal vitamin with 400 mcg of Folic Acid in it daily can help reduce risk factors of spine and brain defects.
🩡 Receiving prenatal care throughout the duration of your pregnancy and routinely seeing a healthcare professional can ensure you're in the best health to support your growing child.
🩡 Making healthy lifestyle choices, such as washing your hands to prevent infections, and maintaining a healthy diet and exercise routine, is important for you and your baby.
🩡 Avoid harmful substances such as alcohol, to***co, va**ng, and recreational drugs.
🩡 Partner with your doctor to control any chronic conditions and discuss medications that you are currently taking.
