RMP is a jointly sponsored program between the University of Alabama School of Medicine (UASOM) and Auburn University's College of Science and Mathematics (COSAM). The program is designed to increase the number of family physicians serving in rural Alabama

Year 1: Auburn University pre-matriculation course with classes specifically designed for the academic needs of each individual student. Years 2-3: UABSOM regular medical school classes in the basic sciences at the Birmingham campus with extracurricular activities emphasizing rural medicine. Years 4-5: Clinical rotations at UABSOM Huntsville Regional Campus with special courses and rotations in the field of rural medicine. Meet all minimum requirements for consideration for regular admission at UABSOM.
2. Be a legal resident of the state of Alabama.
3. Have lived in a rural area of Alabama for no less than eight years.
4. Intend to practice Family Medicine or Primary Care in a rural community or small town in Alabama.
