Massage and Cupping: Two Different Ways to Support the Body

Most people are familiar with massage therapy, which works by applying downward pressure into the muscles to release tension and improve circulation.

Cupping therapy takes the opposite approach. Instead of compressing the tissue, gentle suction creates upward pressure, slightly lifting the muscle and fascia. This decompression can help encourage circulation, ease tightness, and support natural recovery.

In my practice, cupping is not treated as an add-on service. Each session is offered at a single, straightforward rate, allowing me to draw from the full range of techniques I’ve trained in—including cupping—whenever it best serves the work we’re doing.

Over the coming weeks, I’ll be sharing more about how cupping works and the role it can play in thoughtful, results-oriented bodywork.

I heard somewhere that Bob Hope got a massage every day. That's not possible for most of us, but he understood something important about the benefits of massage.

I wanted to reintroduce myself! I’m the owner of Valley Massage Company in Southeast Huntsville.

My work is all about building relationships with people and creating customized sessions to help you relax, relieve pain, and feel your best. Every session is a collaboration—we’ll work together to find the perfect amount of pressure for you.

💙 I LOVE working with people in chronic pain, seniors, office workers + keyboard warriors, busy/stressed women, runners and athletes!

Professional experience:

- Graduated massage school in 2000 (whelp....25 years ago!) and in full-time practice ever since

- Studied/certified in Cupping Therapy in 2015 (especially helpful for stuck fascia/connective tissue)

- Hold state licenses in Alabama and Indiana

- Nationally board certified with NCBTMB

A few fun facts about me:

- My family and I love boating on Lake Guntersville, though I once nearly broke a bone while kneeboarding! 🚤😅

- I’m a coffee lover. Station Coffee Co. is my go-to ☕

- We have an Aussie, and I adore all dogs 🐾

- I enjoy hiking and exploring nature 🌲

TruTherapy Massage is now Valley Massage Company — a name inspired by the beauty of the Tennessee Valley and the wonderful people I’m grateful to serve here in North Alabama.

I’ve been a little obsessed with valleys lately — the calm, the strength, the way they hold and nurture what flows through them — and this name just felt right.

Same space, same intention, just a new name that feels like home. 💙
