Fingers crossed this does not happen. Just in case, it is vital to be prepared. Remember to check on elderly individuals if this situation arises.

This is a Winter Weather Preparedness graphic when facing freezing rain and a potential ice storm. Keep in mind the criteria for an Ice Storm Warning from the Huntsville National Weather Service office is: Expected Ice accumulations of 1/4" or greater. These are typically issued about 48 hours before the forecast event. Issued when freezing rain is the only precipitation type expected. The impact increases with higher winds. Higher winds create more stress on ice covered trees and power lines. The main thing to remember is if a storm is capable of 1/2" or higher ice accretion, the threat for power outages and tree damage increases. Just keep checking back for updates regarding the weekend forecast. It's my job to make sure you are prepared and to give you enough time to plan ahead and make informed decisions. The best outcome will be heavy rain and that is still a possibility.
