Are you seeing CGMs promoted as a wellness tool—even if you don’t have diabetes? 🤔

Here’s why that trend deserves a closer look:

➡️ CGMs were created for people with diabetes—not for general health or weight loss.
➡️ They produce constant data… but more data doesn’t mean more clarity.
➡️ Small changes in blood sugar after eating are normal! But without medical training, you might misinterpret them—and that can lead to food fear, restriction, and disordered eating.
➡️ They’re expensive, and the cost is rarely covered if you don’t have a medical need.

Instead of obsessing over numbers, try this:
💡 Focus on how food makes you feel
💡 Tune into hunger, fullness, and satisfaction
💡 Work with a dietitian who can help you build trust in your body—not fear of food.

Let’s stop chasing perfect numbers and start pursuing real well-being. 💛

“Why am I sweating through the sheets at night?”
It can be jarring, but night sweats are a common and often positive part of eating disorder recovery.

As your body heals from restriction, your metabolism and hormones begin to stabilize, and your internal systems are no longer in energy-saving mode. That reboot can cause temporary heat surges — especially at night.

We know it’s uncomfortable, but it often means your body is starting to trust you again. Healing isn’t always pretty, but it’s always worth it. 💜

📌 Save this post for reassurance on the sweaty nights — and always reach out to your care team with questions or concerns.

Our very own Jenna Le was on this morning talking about ARFID.

What is ARFID?
Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) is a new diagnosis in the DSM-5, and represents a reformulation of what used to be called “Feeding Disorder of Infancy or Early Childhood.” Individuals with ARFID limit the volume and/or variety of foods they consume, but unlike the other eating disorders, food avoidance or restriction is not related to fears of fatness or distress about body shape, size or weight. Instead, in ARFID, selective eating is motivated by a lack of interest in eating or food, sensory sensitivity (e.g., strong reactions to taste, texture, smell of foods), and/or a fear of aversive consequences (e.g., of choking or vomiting).

While there is limited research on the prevalence of ARFID, studies have found that between 0.5%-5% of children and adults in the general population have the disorder.3 Though ARFID most commonly develops during infancy or early childhood, it can persist into adulthood or develop at any age.

Concerned about picky eating or possible ARFID? Reach out to us today to get assessed! info@hsvnutritioncollective.com or 256-224-1665

🍭 Sugar = Hyper? Not so fast. 🍬

Despite what we’ve all heard, sugar doesn't actually cause hyperactivity in kids or adults. Research has consistently shown no link between sugar intake and increased activity levels — even in children thought to be “sugar sensitive.”

So why does it feel like kids get wild after cupcakes at a birthday party? It’s likely the context — exciting events, loud environments, and lots of stimulation — not the sugar itself.

👀 And here’s something fascinating: studies show that when parents think their child had sugar (even when they didn’t), they’re more likely to rate their child as hyperactive. Our beliefs and expectations shape what we think we see.

✨ Instead of fearing sugar, let’s focus on balance, variety, and tuning into how food really makes us feel — without fear or blame.

Vacation can be a time of joy, rest, and connection—but if you’re in recovery, it can also bring challenges like unfamiliar food, lack of structure, and body image discomfort.

Here’s your reminder that you can be on vacation and still honor your recovery:

✨ Your needs still matter.
✨ Flexibility doesn’t mean failure.
✨ It’s okay to bring snacks, step away for a breather, or say no to a plan that feels overwhelming.
✨ Recovery can look different in different environments—and that’s not just okay, it’s expected.

You deserve to enjoy time away without sacrificing your well-being. Take what serves you from these tips and leave the rest. 💛

My Nutrition Philosophy

Food is a great source of pleasure and enjoyment when you have a healthy relationship with food. My goal is to help others make peace with food. I advocate for a non-restrictive diet and work to optimize nutrition based on the individual. I believe in an individualized, holistic, whole foods approach to nutrition with balance and moderation.
