Throughout April, we’ve been sharing recovery information for the procedures you asked about most, closing out the series with Explant (Implant Removal + Breast Lift) — and its recovery has a few details that are helpful to know going in.
If you’re considering explant surgery, it’s important to know that recovery looks a little different than a lift alone. Because your body is not only healing from surgery but also readjusting to life without implant volume, the tissue needs time to redistribute and settle into its new shape.
That process takes longer than most patients expect — full results can take 3–6 months to fully reveal themselves, and that’s completely normal.
In the early weeks, plan for soreness and swelling lasting up to 4 weeks, wearing a support garment as advised by Dr. McLain, and avoiding strenuous activity for up to 6 weeks.
If explant is something you’ve been thinking about, Dr. McLain would be happy to walk you through what recovery would look like for you specifically.
