🖤 Black History Month. Honoring Leadership, Opportunity, and Inclusion 💙🩶
Black History Month is a time to honor the history, resilience, and contributions of African Americans, and to recognize the ongoing importance of inclusion, equity, and opportunity in our communities and workplaces.
We also celebrate African American trailblazers whose leadership helped expand access to education, workforce training, and safer working conditions, foundations that continue to shape workforce development today. Here are a few of those trailblazers:
🖤 Booker T. Washington championed vocational and industrial education as a pathway to economic opportunity, helping establish skills based training as a respected route to stable careers.
🖤 A. Philip Randolph, founder of the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters, organized one of the first major Black labor unions and fought for fair wages, workplace dignity, and safer working conditions.
🖤 Mary McLeod Bethune, educator and founder of Bethune Cookman University, advanced education, leadership development, and workforce preparation for Black Americans and women.
🖤 Dorothy Height dedicated her life to civil rights and economic equity, advocating for access to employment, education, and advancement for all.
Their work laid critical groundwork for inclusive training pathways and stronger, safer workplaces.
At PPI, we are committed to carrying these values forward through inclusive apprenticeships, occupational health services, and workforce development programs that support businesses, workers, and communities across South Dakota.
Honoring Black history also means continuing to build workplaces where opportunity, safety, and respect are available to everyone. 💙🩶
