Shawn Harvey-Huron, SD City Commissioner Shawn Harvey has officially filed his petition and announced his candidacy for Huron City Commissioner. Shawn believes in an honest approach to everything.

Shawn is a native to Huron and if elected, his top priorities would be the well-being of other community members, continuation of community growth, and constantly pushing for community improvement. Being transparent in all he does and constantly striving for better, whether that be in real estate, on the boards he serves, or on the city commission. Shawn also takes things into a personal level of

consideration with everything he does. If things don’t feel right, they probably aren’t. He believes in doing what’s right, not only for him but for everybody that is involved or affected. If elected, Shawn is always open to hearing from each and every community member as to what their thoughts and concerns are and taking them all into consideration in day-to-day actions. Shawn has been in real estate since 2016 and an owner of Montgomery Real Estate since 2017. He currently sits on the Huron Chamber & Visitors Bureau Board of Directors, The Huron Board of Realtors Board of Directors, The South Dakota Realtors Board of Directors, The City Planning Commission, and serves as a Chamber Ambassador. He has held many officer and board positions over the past several years. Shawn Harvey will seek election to the seat currently held by Commissioner Mark Robish

***IMMEDIATE RELEASE***

On Thursday, July 31, 2025, at approximately 8:40pm, the Huron Police Department was dispatched to the southwest side of Huron. The initial call was for a family disturbance, involving a firearm.

Officers contained the area and additional resources were requested. Out of an abundance of caution and the proximity to the residence, Campbell Park was evacuated.

After approximately 10 minutes the suspect exited the residence and was taken into custody without incident. The suspect was transported to the Beadle County Correctional Center and being held on charges related to the incident.

There were no injuries reported to family member or officers.

Due to the incident involving juveniles no further information will be released.

The City of Huron has scheduled a city-wide mosquito control application for Thursday, July 24, 2025, between the hours of 8:00pm and 1:00am. A city-wide mosquito control application consists of three mosquito control trucks. One truck covers the west side of Dakota Avenue, one truck covers the east side of Dakota Avenue, and one truck covers all the alleys. To ensure spray effectiveness during spraying operations, the wind must be less than 15 miles per hour and have no inclement weather present. If the wind is above 15 miles per hour or inclement weather is present, our spray application efforts will be terminated for the evening.

Huron, SD – July 24, 2025 – Following the recent storm that impacted Huron, many residents are dealing with fallen trees, branches, and other debris on their properties. The City of Huron would like to inform residents that the City will not be collecting storm debris curbside.

Residents are encouraged to haul tree limbs, branches, and other storm-related debris to the Solid Waste Department, 1552 4th Street SE, for proper disposal. To assist in cleanup efforts, each household may bring one load to Solid Waste at no charge by presenting a current utility bill stub.

For those needing to dispose of more than one load, please contact the Solid Waste Department at 605-353-8542 to make additional arrangements.

Today’s Henny Penny Pet Parade is making a few adjustments to keep our furry friends safe from the heat and avoid any paw burns.

📍The parade will now begin at the northeast corner of Campbell Park at 6:00pm and take a shaded route around the entire park, sticking to the grass and tree-lined paths to ensure all pets stay cool and comfortable. 🌳🐶

After the parade, head over to Henny Penny Pet Corner (99 Wisconsin Ave SW) for some cool-down fun! We’ll have frozen pet treats, a pet pool, and a sprinkler zone ready to help your pets beat the heat. 💦🍧
